Made the wrong choice :(
I recently picked up an 04 wrx sedan. I LOVE the car, but I don't think that it is the right car for me. I am in outside sales and I drive way to much to have this car. California gas prices are killing me, and the insurance on this + my bad driving record doesnt help either.
I have had the car for 1 month, and it has about 2500 miles on it. I didn't make a down payment but I financed through scooby and got 1.9 so I pay about 440 a month.
Anyway, I want to start looking into getting rid of this car for more of an econobox but I am not sure what my options are. I am well aware that I cant return it to the dealer.
I was thinking about just getting a civic or something similar until I move up in the world. Will a Honda(or whatever) dealer be able to help me without making my payment rediculous?
Do you guys think there is any chance in hell that I could find someone to take over payments? If so, what would be the best way to find someone, and if I did, what is the process I would follow to get the transaction done?
Thanks a bunch for any advise that you can offer me. I know that there are various dealers and many more knowledgable folk than myself that troll the boards, so maybe there is something we can come up with.

If you can, sell it and get a Honda Civic Hybrid since you drive a lot. My g/f's older sister got one and she saves a ton on gas.
2004 Honda Civic 4dr Sedan Hybrid w/ULEV
CarsDirect Price:$17,744
MSRP Price: $20,140
Invoice Price : $18,444
Fuel Economy
46/51 mpg
She paid the MSRP price last year.

Consumer Reports recently did an analysis of the hybrids, and found out that it would take you 20 years to recover the extra cost you spent on the car in gas savings. They compared the non-hybrid models of the Civic and the Toyota model to the hybrid ones, and the extra $4- to $6k you spent wouldn't "pay for itself" for 15 to 20 years, assuming gas prices increase at the current rate. There are actually several gas-only models out there that will do 46 MPG with no problem.
Not to rain on anyone's parade, I'm just noting that the hybrid cars are not economy cars in the strictest sense; more like cars for the eco-minded. Note also that the tax breaks you get on hybrid cars go down each year and will expire completely in 2007.

I don't see much in the way of a good answer. Going back to the Suby dealer isn't any good, they will treat it like any used car. A way for them to make BIG profits. You're not even talking trade-in, just buy back. Unless WRX's are in short supply in your area I don't see this option as a good idea. Maybe Gleb83 is right, but I've never heard of a dealer buying a car back for anything other than "bend you over" pricing.
Selling it private-party is going to be the best chance at getting most of your $$ back, but people are going to be leary about buying it. Who buys a new car then sells it a month later? What's the real story? And if you're asking anywhere near new car price, they will buy new. At least I know I would.
Trade it in at Honda? Not much better than going back to Suby, but at least you might be able to finance the amount your upside down and only pay taxes on the difference in cost.
Not sure how much you can save on insurance by going with a civic, but gas savings are not going to make it worth it to dump the WRX $$ wise.

if you figure out the cost of the trade and then figure out what you save in gas. you can then see if it's worth the effort. try the sbaru dealer they might cut you a deal on an impresa or a baja. you have learnd a lesson that you should count the hidden costs before making a long term contract. hopefully there will be a time when what you owe on the car is less than what it's worth.

I bought a ratty little motorcycle for $800 when I was in college to commute on. It gave me about 50-55 mpg and was probably about as fast to 60 mph as the WRX...of course after 60, forget about it.
Anyway, it's an idea to toy with. You can split lanes in SoCal and it doesn't rain much. OTOH, if you have to wear nice clothes for your sales job it could be a PITA. Leathers do bad things to suits, and riding in SoCal, you definitely want to be riding in leather.

I carry a laptop with me always, and I have a passenger at least once a week, so no go on a bike.
Besides, having a bike as only transportation is quite a pain, I did that once already when I was in college.
