Oh that, it's the release for the deceleration parachute. When you press a button inside the cabin, it will unlock a spring loaded mechanism that will pull that ring and the chute comes out.

No I'm joking, no idea what it is Kinda curious myself as it seems like many cars have them.

yep, tow hook for sure...all WRX's got em...on the...uhmmm...right side.

 

Here's where it goes...I actually didn't know either up til a lil bit when I rotated my tires and checked the tools where the hook is.

 

yeah spclagenth, it is definately a tow hook. Its becoming pretty rice, I saw a civic with a red tow hook attached to his crappy body kit. Completely useless, but I guess it made it look like a race car (NOT!). I'd like to see that guy get a tow from someone and stare in horror as his bumper was ripped off.

 

Thats not the tow hook, thats the place where when you have a engine heater you would plug it in. I dont know where the tow hook is.
