If you don't mind me asking why did you take off the subaru logo on the back? I have noticed this lately in just looking in WRX's that a lot of people are doing this.... Is it because if people see it and say that's a rex, they should automatticly know it's a scooby or no? lol Just wondering that's all :-)
Also, when you took it off did you have to get the back repainted? Or did it take any paint off, I always thought those were screwed in or had a hard apoxy to hold them on, because of the weather..etc.
Thanks,
-Nigel

you can take it off using dental floss and some sort of adhesive remover and it does not damage the paint at all, just polish it up for a nice shine.

Rear WRX wing w/ red LED lights (not clear)
For those interested in what a rear wing looks like with red LED lights:

wrx ish:
Thanks for the reply. That's good to know about using floss :-)
Uncle_Dan:
How come some spoilers have the white led bar and some are red in the pic that you posted? Is that to differentate the years?
When you get a spoiler can you specify if you want white or red?
Thanks,
-Nigel

Texas DAR makes both the clear and red lens rear spoilers for the WRX. Their clear lens type is the same size and width as the OEM spoiler and their red lens type is wider with a total of 36 red LED lights. The reason why I chose the Texas DAR rear spoiler with the red lens over the OEM rear spoiler with the clear lens was because the clear lens stood out too much against the blue wing. I liked the look of the red lens better. To me, the clear lens looks better on the white, silver and yellow WRXs and the red lens looks better on the red, black and blue WRXs.
By the way, I removed the interior 3rd brake light from inside of the car because I never understood why car manufacturers install them when there's already a 3rd brake light in the rear wing.

Sorry if I seem a little obsessive, but when I pay for something I would like to get my moneys worth.

Subaru, like other car companies, have some of their OEM parts made exclusively by their subsidiaries or companies outside of their own. If you know of someone who owns a WRX with an authentic OEM rear spoiler, check and compare the names of the manufacturers. I wish I could help you out regarding the manufacturer of your rear spoiler by comparing it with mine, but my spoiler is an aftermarket brand manufactured by Texas D.A.R. and their company logo is on the underside of the red lens brake light.

The most common style is with the clear lens; however, you have to check where you are getting it from. Just because the lens is clear doesn't necessarily mean that it's a true OEM part from Subaru. There's a company out of Texas that makes aftermarket "OEM-Style" rear spoilers for many makes and models of popular cars, including the WRX. If you bought your WRX with a rear spoiler already on it, it most likely is an authentic OEM part from Subaru. But if the rear spoiler is a dealer option and/or is installed by the dealer, then there's a good chance that it came from the spoiler company DAR of Texas, also known as Texas DAR.

Uncle_Dan,
Hope you don't mind me picking your brain one more time, but I have a couple more questions for ya :-)
How do you know what a factory option is compared to a dealer option. For instance: I went to the Subaru dealership in a near city by where I work. I saw a yellow wrx there, I looked at it and it was pretty nice, one thing I did notice was the exaust pipe, it was big.. I could fit my whole fist in it. To my knowledge it didn't look like a STI one because I didn't think they were that big from the factory... I've only seen it in pictures, so I could be wrong in saying this... It did already have the spoiler on it but I didn't bother looking at the back like. The thing only had 280 miles on it but how would I know without a doubt what was added to the car or what I can get added to the car that's not currently on it?
I have never purchased a car before..ever... so that is why I ask all the questions on here :-)
Thanks,
-Nigel

I don't mind you asking me questions. That's why we're all here is to help each other. Be careful if and when you buy a car from a dealership and it looks as if the car has already been modified. Make sure to get in writing from the dealership that the car is covered by both the dealership's and Subaru's warranty as-purchased with all the modifications in place. If they won't, then don't buy the car.
Please go to the following link to find out what options are available for the 2003 WRX:
http://autos.msn.com/autopricer/tool...&idModel=10608
For the most part, when an option is installed at the port of entry, otherwise known as Port Installed Option or PIO, that option is usually considered to be a factory installed option. If an option is installed by the dealership, then it's classified as a Dealer Installed Option or DIO.
