Car Info: 08 FS/07 FXT/93 GC8 blue/black/black
as a whole the parts for the entire gc and gf series are inter changeable .... many fo those parts are interchangagle with the gda/gga
gdb =sti .. so even stiffer chassis and differnt motor tranny .. and lots of other "small" things
FWIW i have both
a GDA
and a GC2 soon to be a GC8

Okay here is how it goes
G = Impreza Model Line
C = Previous Generation Sedan
M = Previous Gerneration Coupe
F = Previous Generation Wagon
D = New Age Sedan
G = New Age Wagon
6 = EJ25 N/A
8 = EJ20 Turbo (Obviously)
A = EJ20 without AVCS (I believe)
B = EJ20 with AVCS (I believe)
Please correct me if I am wrong.
So basically here are all the combinations possible:
GC6, GM6, GC8, GM8, GF8, GDA, GDB, GGA, GGB
I know I have probably missed some, but that is what it breaks down too.

nomadtw,
You are right the 4 does stand for the 2.2L engines. The number at the end of the two letters will always designate the type of engine that is in the car.
steppin16,
You never heard the term GM6 because the GC8 is what the rest of the world got and we did not. So basically when you buy parts you should be looking for stuff that fits a GC/GM/GF car and not a GC8, technically.
Here is a site that will help you decode your Vin and explain it quite well.
