Congrats on your purchase choice! If you've had the Legacy GT long enough to share some thoughts about it, we'd like to hear your impressions of the car. What do you like about it as far as shortcomings that were present in the SRT-4 but also what do you miss (if anything) about the SRT-4.

Thumbs up

Well I got a Silver one and it is an absolutely amazing car in every way. I wasen't sure about getting rid of the SRT but then I test drove the Legacy and it sold itself. It is unbelievably smooth and quiet. It has the feel of a much more expensive car. The inside is very spacious, the instument panel is just plain sexy, seats are very comfortable and the headlights are crazy bright. Halogen headlights and projector fog lights.

My only concern when considering this was that I was going to miss the speed and power of the SRT. But let me tell you this, the Legacy can definitly handle its own and It honestly feels faster. The power distribution and pull is constant all the way up to redline. There is minimal turbo lag if starting in a low gear like cruising in 3rd at 2.5 or 3k RPMs then gunning it but thats nothing a quick down shift can't remedy. Off the line its very quick (don't worry I am babying it just had to give it a go a couple times. if you had a chance to drive it I'm sure you would too) and just keeps pulling.

The handling is amazing especially coming from the SRT (though most SRT people say the SRT handles well.. it does not!) The Legacy proves that as it is completely composed at all times when turning and no matter what you throw at it it just takes it and takes it nicely. The car far out weighs my original expectations and shattered all my prior ideas of the car. Driving and owning the car is pure bliss and I'm proud to be in subaru family. I will never buy another car.

I don't really know if there is anything the SRT has that I would miss as the Legacy feels equally fast. Well its hard to compare as they are two very different cars with very different feel when going through the gears. The SRT had more raw power that just jolted you were as the Legacy is refined power which is delivered strong but smooth and consistent, both are very fast though. I do have to say that it is nice to be fast off the line, in the corner and while in motion.... Not just in a straight line. LOL

And to add the transmission is flawless and smooth with very short gears. They are close to eachother and whats crazy is that when getting on it and shifting into the next gear the car surges forward jumping into the next gear just grabbing at the road and pulling like a madman. It is a very different feel when accelerating as it is very quiet with a subtle exhaust note and the pure and beautiful whinning of the turbo. The car in general is very refined in all aspects.

It is also very easy to shift it is almost like having an automatic as the clutch is smooth and engages immediately. Shifts are quick and effortless making for a very satisfying drive and making for a great all around car.

Sorry if I am all over the place with this post and if it is not the greatest write up but I'm just so excited and amazed at the car that my thoughts get all jumbled and scattered.

All I have to say is don't test drive it..........

unless you are ready to buy it because it is almost impossible to walk away from it.

Hope that is good for now I will tell you more as I continue to explore her limits (once i've broken her in of course)..

I'll try and get some pictures up later today but its raining so they won't be the best.

However I'm not sure how to post pics so I'll just attach the link to my yahoo photo album.

very nice write up.
after letting my wife enjoy her wrx for a year it was time for me to get my own subie. i was debating between the legacy or sti. i picked sti. but due to the fact i sell these cars made it much more difficult for me to decide. i think at this present time in my life i am not ready to settle down in terms of driving.

my impressions of legacy vs. sti

legacy= comfort, refinement, luxury before performance..but performance being very closely related.

sti= performance before comfort...but comfort very closely related.

and BTW, congrats! enjoy your car
