Just bought an 02 WRX wagon
Hey all,
My name is Cameron and I just joined this site a few days ago.
Anyways I have wanted a WRX for a few years but I could not afford one a few years ago so I picked up an 02 2.5. TS.
Anyways, I was checking out the dealership the other night and spotted a red WRX wagon. Anyways, I drove it yesterday and She blew my mind.
I went back over today and I got a good trade in with my TS and I pick her up next Wednesday.
Anyways I just wanted to share my elation...=]

Looks clean! Is that what they call Sedona Red? How many miles on it? Any dealer installed options or aftermarket performance (it looks like it has tint)?

I am still somewhat green as far as what came standard on the 02 WRX's
She has:
-Tint
-Roof rack, ( I think that was standard)
-Trunk liner
That is all I can think of right off hand.
I do have a question for anyone who has debadged a red wrx though, I read up last night about the technique used to debadge with fishing line, goo gone and a hair dryer. While I was reading up someone said that there seems to be more fade in the paint with red WRX's.
If that is the case, how can I go about getting the paint behind the badges to fade and match the rest of the paint?
Anyone know of some kind of tutorial in regards to fading paint?
Thanks for your help,
Cam

I know the guy that was the previous owner was a really **** doctor, (not a proctologist) just a very regulated guy who kept her stock and serviced on a regular basis.
Plus I got the 3yr extended warranty.

The rack was optional on my '02, although there might be a difference in standard equipment between Canada and US.
When I ordered my car in Jan 2001, I couldn't see what the car looked like because none had yet been delivered. Based on the paint swatch, I thought the red looked terrible. Now I wish I had chosen that color. There are very few around, and it looks fantastic - especially with the tint. Congrats.
As for the paint try this: take the rear spoiler off and inspect the paint underneath the mounting points. If it's not too badly faded, you will know. If it is, at least you don't have one of the decals off...I have no idea how to accelerate fade or get the paint to match.
To remove the spoiler, pop the two square cover plates off the top of the spoiler *carefully* using a slotted screw driver, then remove the bolts from each side. Then, gently but firmly (does that make sense?), push up on the spoiler towards the front of the car. Once it gives, it lifts right off. Sometimes I've had to give it a bump with the palm of my hand.
I keep mine off most the winter, with painted bolts and a nylon washer to cover the holes. This way I can open the rear almost all the way with my box on top which stores boards and wet boots.

^^Good point on taking your spoiler off if you have a box on top. BUT, if you don't carry anything on top, and you get alot of snow where you live...I've found it better to keep the spoiler on for the purpose of keeping the snow off the back window. When snow melts, and then ices over, the ice slides off the roof onto the back of your car and can take your rear wiper completely off. Also, you usually don't haveto clean the back window of ice and snow very much if you leave it on.
thats a really cool mouse pointer on the interior shot, is that standard? J/k, in all seriousness, even though im not a fan of red, the sedona red is really, really good looking, i might have been tempted when i bought my 02(used) if there was one around. congrat's and good luck modding(dont lie to yourself and say you won't).
also, i agree, take the spoiler off to inspect the paint. that is a fantastic idea.
