jdm gauge question

does anyone know why the JDM cars gauges only go to 180 km/h? I'm looking at a WRX, and the gauge only goes to 180 km/h, i heard all JDM cars are like that but don't know the reason why. is it the government limits it to prevent excessive speeding? and is there any way to get the car to go faster than 180 km/h?

HEHE!!!!!! Thats like asking if u can get a Ferrari to go faster than 55 mph...just because the speed only goes that high on dash doesnt mean the car wont go faster. You can use your rpm's to figure out your speed after your needle is planted. keep it slow unless your on the track, seen to many friends lose their life over stupidity................blowing the doors off V8's on city streets...0-100 is much funner.

The reason I asked was because I read on alot of other sites that they had JDM cars and the rev limiter kicked in at 180km/h which is real weak. but that who gettin JDM WRX isnt happening cuz the insurance wants proof that it meets all the US safety standards. that was the last thing I needed and the way this company brings the cars into the US they disassemble then ship to US, then reassemble in US.

They do have Speed Limiters on the OEM clusters (at least the Nissan's that I owned while in Japan did)

It's nothing that a reflash normally didn't take care of.
