How did you do it?
Oh masters of self-restraint and patience, how did all you Rex owners manage to survive your break-in period?
I've had my beautiful WR Blue WRX sedan for two days and I only have 70 miles amassed thus far. A thousand miles seems like an eternity away, and it drives me crazy that I have to shift right when the turbo says "it's time to play!"
If only my wife didn't take it to work, then I could run up the miles. Oh well.
By the way, I frickin’ LOVE this car! I go through withdrawals all day long, and as soon as my wife gets home I have to take my daily drive. If the rear seats folded down I'd sleep in the damn thing.
So how'd you do it?

I've made the drive from Seattle to L.A. before in 17 hours. That was brutal. At the end of the drive I was so pumped with Pepsi and Vivrin I was litterally shaking like a masterbating monkey! But the drive was nice.

I have already informed my boss that when my car gets delivered, I will be taking 3 days of vacation. There's no way I could sit in my office and do spreadsheets when I could be out driving a new 'rex, at least not that soon after I got it.
EDIT: And surprisingly I won't get fired. My boss recently took half a day off to buy the Two Towers extended edition box and go home and watch it, to give you an idea of the kind of people I'm dealing with...

Congrats!
It took me about a week to reach 1000, only three weeks ago. I know what you mean about having to shift RIGHT when the car starts giving you what you paid for!
I find now I like to keep it in 3rd gear between 3500-4500rpms for most driving. It's real smooth, and the boost is right there when you need it.
Of course, we won't mention what happens if you go below 2000rpm................. =(

The way I broke my 1,000 mile limit is by going from Sacramento to S, Lake Tahoe the Saturday after I got it, then came home around the long way (all the way over 88 to I-80 and back down). Then on Sunday, I went up to Fort Bragg, cruised some beaches then came down hwy 1.
Hit 1,000 miles on the way home

Keeping the RPMs down during break-in was torture, but I did it in less than 3 weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to take any long drives.
The worst part was waiting at traffic lights. Like any WRX owner will tell you, a lot male drivers under 25 just have to try their luck at beating a REX on a green light, but I had to amble my way up to speed like a blue hair on his way to a prostate exam.
Just remember, a well broken-in engine will run stronger and much longer than one that isn't, and you'll get a lot more opportunities to really perform with the car down the road.
I also changed oil & filter at 500, 1000 and 3000 before settling into 4K changes.
