Higher mileage WRX's
Higher mileage WRX's
Ok, I have been reading around for a few days, and havn`t found what I`m looking for yet..
Basically, what life expectancy can I expect out of a 02/03 WRX Wagon? I don`t plan on raping it, racing/dragging/whatever. It will be a daily driver on the 35mile comute to work and back. I own a '93 Taurus right now with 282k miles on it and I`m ready for something else practical with a little more fun in it. I`m hoping I can run the WRX for just as long, if not longer.
I realise alot of it is how it was treated prior to me owning it, but lets just say everything is normal. No history of racing or dragging, just normal driving.
Thanks.

My WRX has almost 95k on it and I have never had a single problem with it, minus one broken sway bar bracket at a bout 40k. The thing runs like a champ!

I just broke the 100,000 mark on my '02 Sedan. Since I've had it, I've had no issues at all save a faulty boost solenoid. I do 5,000 mile oil changes with full synthetic, and still have the same tranny fluid that was in the car when I picked it up. (@47,000mi.) Nothing but 93 octane. I have a Cobb Accessport set at Stage 1, a deleted intake tract and a K&N filter, Tein springs on AGXs, Progress sways, and Samco I/C hoses. I've rally-crossed it, and I regularly enjoy full throttle pulls through the gears and playing lightly with various other cars on the highway and the odd deserted stoplight.
It still runs like it just came out of the showroom, and idles like a champ. I can't tell the difference between it and any of the '05s I test drove.
In short, don't worry. =)

Have an '02 with 82K. Ordered it in Oct. of 2000 and was lucky to have all the long stares and double takes the first couple of months driving it. If you are going used avoid the early build '02 model due to the leaky fuel rail. I refuse to fix mine since it only occurs in very cold weather. Had mobil 1 since new and other than the crappy thin paint I love the car. Was making 45 mile one way commutes for 2 years, hence the high milelage. Only thing that is dissapointing is the rather lackluster mileage for a 4 cylinder, but its better than the V10 in my dodge.

Cobb Stage 2. I drive it like I stole it. 3K - 3500K mile oil changes using conventional 5-30w. Only real problem was a miss fire CEL. No miss fire though.
Ref. the leaking fuel rail...it has been touched on in the mechanical part of the site. Unter the upper intake manifold the seals are affected by extreemly cold weather, under 25 degrees or so. the vapors get out and the car smells like you spilled gas in it. Subaru will not fix it even though it's their fault in my opinion. Also had clutch shudder in the early models that was fixed with a modified plate I think. Don't get me wrong, love the car. Now just deciding weather to get an legacy next year or wait for the '07 sti.

hopefully it was not drivin hard previously... my 02 WRX has 58k miles and the only problems i have had are the ones created by the subaru dealership and the previous owner, such as brake problems, and gauge wiring problems.

Thanks, I think.. The taurus wasn`t perfect, it went through 2 engines, but the last one had almost 200k on it as it is now sitting on the driveway. Never had a transmission problem though! Even towing and hauling the junk I did with it.
I ended up buying a WRB WRX with 54k miles on it from a guy in STL MO who frequents this board and a few others. Very happy with it so far, except I got a ticket for the front tint in the first few days of driving it. Done 1200 miles in the first week, and I think i will keep it for a while.
The cars i buy are cars to be used, I will run it until it wont run anymore.
