a 2.5 liter engine??? i always thought it would be 2.0 with just a bigger turbo?

The 2.5T is a first-timer that will be available only in the US market.

For once we get something exclusive, I love it!

 

Yep, I figured displacement would go up in the US because we can't support high boost. Makes sense. But I'm sure as hell not complaining.

 

I don't quite understand that... how high of boost do you need? The Evo is running 19psi (insane!!). That's pretty high, right? Or is my perception of "high boost" skewed?

 

Well, that means that for an Impreza with a 2.0L engine to show up the Evo, it would need to be running even higher boost. In order to avoid that, Subaru is using a 2.5L engine, which can produce more power while running lower boost (making it easier on the engine and compensating for our low-octane gasoline.)

 

The 2.5l engine solves two problems at once. Not only is it easier to pass emissions, but it also makes more torque down low. And if there's been one complaint about the WRX, it's the turbo lag/lack of low end torque.
