Got a Black 02 WRX Wagon! Questions..
Yeh!!!!!
I am the proud owner of a 2002 Black WRX wagon, 28,000 miles!!
I ended up getting the one I looked at at a dealership yesterday that I loved.
Its just sweet. The interior is on of the best features of the car...and of course that turbo! Love that menecing hiss when the pedal is squezzed...its purely addicting. Just wish it were louder! Anyone know how I can make that happen?
I want a blow off Valve I can hear too, definitely.
Everything else is just perfect.
It does have some sounds Im not sure are normal for a STOCK wrx. THe exhaust has a very low deep drone at idile, sounds real good and powerfull, just not STOCK like the muffler looks, and I know it is. Also I pulled in my driveway tonight, and stepped out while it was running and noticed...it LOPES!! Im serious... like a cammed out v8 would--- just in half!! Just a slight "BLUGH BLUGH BLUGH BLUGH..." from the tail pipe. THats not normal and stock for this car--- is it?? Sounds good to me though!!
Im bringing it to a great SUBARU Mech. tommorow to get checked out so I can see whats up.
Love it though --in just my first day. Hope it will be a long lasting relationship.

You can make both the turbo and the stock bypass valve louder by taking out the intake silencer. You can find directions here:

Don't worry about beating the Neon SRT4s. Just wait a year for them to break down 
Seriously though. Those cars are fast. You'll be looking at more than removing the silencer for mods to beat one (at least a good driver). Also be careful not to cook the clutch trying to beat them. Its VERY easy to do on an AWD car. I learned the hard way.

I found a link someone posted in a forum here, and its been a "be all-end all" piece of important knowledge in the tuning of a WRX. Everyone should read this site!

Im loving my REX! One thing thats really funny, is, I went in to remove the intake silencer today, in hopes to make my turbo hiss even louder...and found out it had ALREADY been cut out!!
Well, guess I am just used to loud mean cars.
When I read that link, it made me understand alot about the BOV and why not to replace it,, its not worth the cool sound.
I am increadably happy just driving it!! what an awesome damn car. Everyday I drive it I feel like im in a tuned SCCA race car..then I get out, and see that its just my cool little wagon, and it makes me giggle
The 3 things I want to do to my wagon are the top things listed on this site above... Strombog (sp?) muffler
new up-pipe (catless)
ECU mod
THe most important thing with these cars seems to be learning to drive them right! clutch and shifting and keeping the launches smooth is of most importance to me for the long life of my WRX.
One more thing...this ECU flash, what does it consist of, is there a how too link?
