good roads to haul heine
I was reading a few posts and saw people talking about which roads in their areas were the best for "spirited driving" with an emphasis on a heavy right foot. So i figured it be cool to have a place to list such roads. so have at it.
heres mine:
Southern California:
higway 101 northbound (I'll just say north to give an idea of location, but you can run this stretch both ways) on the way to Santa Barbara from Los Angeles. After you get through ventura and are nearly in Santa Barbarana (carpenteria area) there is a stretch that has no shoulders for our radar toting friends and really long sight distances so you can spoth the bastards. Signs say it is patrolled by air but I've never seen a cop car or an aircaft or anyone pulled over on this stretch. I've driven it well over 100 times. I regularly exceed 100+ in this area in the middle of the day.

Route 61, Fayette Cty. WV
Ok, I've been lurking here ever since Thursday when I bought my brand new MY03 WRX. I drove a MY00 2.5rs for 3 years. I finally see something I wanna contribute (since I know little about mechanics, but am learning).
The FINEST stretch of road in Fayette county WV, has got to be Rt. 61.
It's a very "country" area near my home, few homes, and down the side of some of our curviest mountains.
I've driven this road literally thousands of times. It's approximately 23 miles start to finish, gets a touch boring in spots, and does drop from 55 to 40 abruptly for about 2 miles at one point, but lemme tell ya it makes up for it.

The last 8 miles are the best with some very tight curves into nice straights and on camber downhill curves. They are not visible on the map however.
Mapquest has the total trip time as 56 minutes... this to me is hilarious, I **** you not, I have covered this stretch in 18 minutes (it was an emergency).
It's never actually patrolled as it's not within a specific cities jurisdiction, so only the occasional county or state car will even travel the road.
If you are ever able to come through here in the early AM hours, I highly suggest that you do, you will cover every speed from 10 mph, to 140+ (if that's your thing).
Ok, I'm going back to my hole now... hope someone gets a try at this.

Living in Maine we have miles and miles of roads perfect for this. here in the mid coast area there a lot of backroads, twisty, hilly, and just awesome. i think one of my favs is rt. 52 from camden to belfast. winds along a lake for a couple miles. one side is the lake, the other is a sheer rock face. then lots of up hill twists, and couple good straights. one giant sweeping left hander. there are just so many more. SCCA has a Pro rally in Rumford, which is in Western maine. and the roads out there are even better. the surface can be sketchy sometimes, but theres never anyone on the roads. and houses are literally miles apart.
yes sucker king, we all know you're god, and would never break the law.
