gear ratio between years

gear ratio between years
i have 2 impreza L one is a 98 and one is a 97 both are stock. the 97 feels like it has alittle more power at top end then the other. but the 98 feels like it has more power at lower ends. SO i want to know if the gear ratio is diffrent somewhere along the line of the system
