yes there is....it generally comes on with about 1.5 gallons left in the tank....if you were bellow E or even on E and it didn't come on maybe you should have it checked.

mine comes on as soon as it hits the E....

Yea, it goes off when you have like 1.5 gallons or a little bit over. So you don't have to trip about pumpin' gas 'til the light blinks. I drove and got on the free and off and the light was on. I pumped $30 bux that day.

The light comes on when you have 2 gallons left. Not 1.5, and not 4.

Subaru fuel tanks consist of two halves. Each of them has a fuel level sensor. When the combined Ohm reading of the two comes to what equals 2 gallons and stays like that for 10 minutes, the light comes on.

Sometimes, due to fuel slush, the light might come on sooner, but will will go away, after it does not see consistent 10 minute Ohm reading from both half's sensors.

Why do I know that? I do not know. I just know this random ****.

Depending on how badly you bent the float arm(like I did) when you installed your new fuel pump, YMMV....
