Fuel smell

damn near every morning when I start this thing(02 impresa sedan wrx 127 k and going) I get the overwhelming smell of gas, ever since changing the fuel filter, there IS NO sign of leaking fuel ANYWHERE, i thought i would change my cabin filter just in case, well there wasn't one in there and it still smells.
it was at a shop for an oil leak diag. and they did a smoke test for the fuel leak and saw a small leak back by the filler neck and they said the "think" they saw some wetness on passenger side rear injector
welp ive been all over it and under it at start and i see NOTHING..
wondering (since this is me first subee) if there are orings on the OEM fuel rail or somewhere that i am missing, i don't want to throw a butt load of parts at it just because its all stock and trying to fix a leak and was hoping some subee pros have had this problem and can direct me to something

as a side note yesterday was the first day mobbing in the snow with this and i may just retire my big *** duramax for snow driving as it was soo fun

Pauly!! good to know you're on the forum man(if you're not paul ignore all that lol..) mines been doing the same with the cold weather.. I'm totally catless though(doesn't help the smell obv..), but iirc the bugeyes or 02-04 have a fuel line issue or something that causes a fuel smell in the cabin after cold starts, not positive but pretty sure.. I believe it's covered by subaru

Did you check the injectors? Maybe you need injector seals

I have an 02 WRX and noticed the same Fuel smell issue in Cold weather, even more so in winter in Tahoe. I did some research and found that this is a notorious issue with the 02 models.

Too bad the extension of warranty is from date of sale, not model year. Grrrr. Act fast.

I'm sure you've already done this but it's important to check periodically all fuel hose clamps in the engine bay, especially as it gets colder

probably not as big of a deal on subies but my old 300zx had this problem..

yes I have checked the injectors and as much of the rail as I can see where it dumps into injectors and nothing looks wet
I am at 4000 ft in the hills, I think overnight it got to 11* and the subee mobs thru the snow, landlord got stuck at bottom of road in their forerunner , I was stopped waiting for her, she couldn't go, I went around her thru the berm and up the hill to top then walked down and got in her rig and got it for her laughing all the way...
glad to hear there are others with same issue
I bought used(obviously) butt I will check with dealer service on Monday to see if there were any recalls or if they will fix on their dime, doubt it butt will try
thanks for the help

Maybe the fuel line?

There's a recall out there.

I just had mine done from the recall. They replace part of the fuel rails under the intake manifold.

Might want to hurry and talk to a dealer. I heard the recall ends this month.
