ecu reflash or upgraded shocks?

since this is talking about suspension and engine management, i didnt whether to put it in either the susp or em section so i put it here. My question is, since i have been lowered on tein s-tech springs for about 1000 miles now, my car only has 5000 miles on it. would it be wiser for me to get new shocks, or is it not that urgent as of now. keep in mind i just want a smooth ride that is not bouncy. I guess my quesiton is how long do my shocks have until they are bouncy and rough? because if i still got a while i really want to get an upgraded engine mangement like the cobb ap or something like that. so should i go for the upgraded shocks or a ecu reflash?

There's actually no precise or accurate estimate of how long a stock shock would last on a lowering springs. Unless, the springs are made for the stock shocks like Prodrive springs. If I were you, I would get the shock upgrade, since a reflash can be made anytime without risking of damaging anything.

It's a no brainer right? But I feel you on 2nd opinions!

Late!

someone i know with hotchkis springs on his car has stock struts as well and has had them for 60 k miles with no problem. my drop is a lower than his will my shocks last just as long? i know s-tech spring rates are relatively not as stiff compared to others

if you have an 04 or 05, I would have the ecu reflashed to take care of the ol/cl delay and add some more power.

the re-flash is such a huge improvement, I would get that over a "might never happen" problem to your shocks... how are the springs by the way??

the look the springs gave my car is exactly what i was looking for i really like it. the ride is pretty decent not bouncy and still pretty smooth. only had it on the car for about 1100 miles. I dont do much auto crossing or anything crazy like that atleast not yet so i dont mind it having a relatively softer spring rate. i mean its still an improvement from stock and i think it fits what im looking for very well

What else have you done to the car? Any turbo, exhaust upgrades?

Personally, I'd wait until I had a few mods done to get the ECU reflash (or at same time) to optimize the tuning.

IF you have no mods and are just looking to free up the "hidden" power in the engine, you'll just need to go back and have the ECU retuned when you add any major mods.

i was thinking of getting the cobb access port, for now im stock so i would just run stage 1, but when i get a down pipe, up pipe and exhaust i can just switch to the stage 2 map so i really wouldnt have to go anywher to get my car reflashed

Sounds like a good plan. If you enjoy the suspension set up you have now, I'd say go for the ECU.

You'll appreciate the changes more as you further tune your car.
