downshifting from 2nd into 1st

just curious if anyone has been able to downshift from 2nd into 1st, while the car is moving - with OR without rev matching.

and no, automatic trans (or paddle shift equipped) vehicles do not count.

its possible. but not really needed/recommended. i tend to only use first only at stop lights. OR if i get going, shift into second, but traffic slows and ill carefully put her in first and be sure to match RPMs for the smoothest shift. but ya, doable but not common.

edit: only doable usually under 10MPH. gotta be going REAL slow

I can do it...it takes a second of you don't rev match

It's really pointless though

hmm... then apparently my 06 WRX Wagon is odd. i can downshift from 2nd to 1st at 30mph.

i do rev match and it helps when i am making a quick u-turn... i can see it being a huge help in AutoX situations too.

^ this, Its much less expensive to replace brakes than a clutch.

it isn't useless at all. at u-turns i do not bog the engine at all and keep momentum - and with proper rev matching, it doesn't beat up the clutch at all.
