Convince me to leave my 300zxTT for a WRX
Hello all,
I am the current owner of a modified 90 300zx twin turbo and I am interested in the WRX. If I could, I would keep the Z and buy a WRX but I dont have the room for another car. My concern however is with highway performance of the WRX, I am not concerned at all with 1/4 mile times. I want someone to convince me that the WRX can be made to be a freeway screamer. Currently I put down 360hp to the ground with my z and it pulls like no tomorrow above 100. Every race I have had against a WRX above 80 has been no contest. Is it possible to get this kind of performance out of the WRX while still maintaining it as a daily driver? My Z has been and is a great car, but maintaining it is a full time job. Plus I wouldnt mind my insurance coming down again
Anyway, I am not a troll trying to start crap. Just someone interested in the car that most of you drive. Thanks.

mmm tough ?
i look at it like this yes you can build up your wrx to do what you want
but when your comparing a highway cruising modded Z car to the more scrappy low end and mid range powered stock wrx ...is a little un-fair ....
my rex pulls 262hp and 262 Lb/ft torque at the wheels
approx 325 at the crank ....

some where there is posted my dyno results....

Over 100 I doubt many daily driver WRX's could even compete, even if they had 400hp... AWD, Aerodynamics and the fact that you have a 6-cylinder engine do kind of make it a problem hard to overcome...

Don't know what to tell you but I still have my M-Roadster and 1 day old '02 WRX in my garage. Ha ha ha..I want to drive WRX everyday now. To tell you the truth, the WRX doesn't or will pull like my M but it is a different beast all together. It would be the same for you. I am sure your TT is extremely fast but does it corner or handle like a WRX, I will leave it to you to answer that.
Good luck and while you are at it keep both car, just in case you want to rip-it once in awhile.

My friend has a 91 twin turbo, sweet car. He has about the same horse power as you. My thoughts would be that a stock or even modded wrx will not hang with the 300z over 80mph, especially if the z has been modded. My friends 300z puts out close to 400hp.
well,
you might try and 'race' one on a set of twisty roads. I am sure that that will make the decision a little more clear.
Not sure if the Z will be able to handle a good set of twisties as compared to a WRX, but then again, I may be wrong.
Try it, it might just help sway your decision.

i.

That is a tough one... But having driven high hp variants of both I can give you my perspective. Both can be made to handle with the best of them. Both can be high hp daily drivers, how much do you want to spend? The difference comes down to three things:
1) Drive train-Whats the weather like where you live?
2) Utility-Ever like to have more than one passenger?
3) What is the purpose of the car? Pleasure only, or commuter. If pleasure only, then you can keep the Z. Unless you've come to a point where you'd like something new.

i have to admit that i have always been in love with the 300zx's.
Well unless you want to spend a nice chunck of money the wrx wont do to well at that high of speeds, so i think i would stick with the z if all you want to do is race people on the on a straight highway.
the wrx will give you some nice nice nice handles, however 90% of us dont need it.
I love the modest yet agressive styling of the rex, If your looking for top end then stick with what you got.
but when yopu get clocked at 120 in your Z and running from the cops your gonna wish you had the rex when you loose your rear trying to take a corner to fast.....=-)

My dad has an m roadster, and let's just say he's been walked by a WRX with very slight mods. It doesn't take much to beat the M's stock 0-60 of 5.2 or 1/4 mile of 13.9-14.0. This is not to mention that I pulled two car lengths on him from a stop in my rabbit. He wasn't too happy with that!
