No, but I eventually want to have something a bit different than the norm. My WRX engine is almost at 90,000 miles so I have a bunch of life left, but I want something a bit...crazy =)

wouldn't it be more expensive to get a hold of a ej207 than the ej257?

enlighten me here real quick, the ej207 is the jdm sti engine right? 2 liters instead of 2.5, but still 300hp?

Well, there are a few different versions of the JDM STI EJ207.

Compared to the WRX engine, it has better pistons (V7 has forged pistons, V8 has hypercast pistons for added strength), stronger rods, it's a semi-closed deck, has higher lift cams and higher flowing heads, a balanced STI crankshaft. This engine essentially is good to rev to 8000-8200rpm stock if I'm not mistaken.

The EJ207 would give you a much higher revving engine compared to the STi engine here in the states.

Yeah, the EJ257 would be easier for parts, but I think having a unique swap with the EJ207 will be worth it. I'll just have to make sure everything will be work for a while before I drop it in. Haha

I've been debating this as well, but with an EJ257. The parts will definently be easier to come across, a little easier to wire, have more displacement and more TQ. The costs of the jdm motor has got to probably be around $5k + shipping and what not over here. Plus if you decide to tune it your only option is ECUTEK with the jdm ecu's right?

yeah, my thinking if EJ207, then would be a front clip so you know EVERYTHING you need is included...esp if you're doing it yourself.

If you have a reputable shop that can make it work with less parts/less than the front clip, then cool beans...

interested to know what ECU tuning options you would have as Hatteroo mentioned...

Yeah, it depends on what you are looking to get out of the car/engine. If you just want a reliable, semi-inexpensive fast ride, the EJ257 is probably simpler and cheaper, not to mention less of hassle. But if you want to stand out in a crowd, the EJ207 might be more helpful. Methinks that if you wouldn't mind being a bit lacking in the low end torque department, the JDM motor might work well, especially considering that the flipside would be an extra 1K of engine speed. But I have no experience with swaps, so I'm only guessing here.

how would a ej257 ne any easier?? the 207 dosent have dbw and you wont have to rewire a ver7 ecu will plug into his exisiting harness and run the only thing you will need to do is run wires for the avcs iaperformace even makes a avcs kit with everythinbg you need

That's the other question considering if I go EJ207. The v8 has the stronger hypercast pistons over the v7. The low end torque would be nicer to have with the EJ257, but the special feeling of knowing I have something a bit different is very appealing.

Plus an 8k redline doesn't hurt either. before I do any swaps, I'm building up my suspension and then going for a BBK on all 4.

Stopping is more important than speeding =)

my vote is for reliability plus ease of getting parts. either way, you are going to be happy with your selection and either will both be awesomely fast. plus, the ej257 still has a ton of potential.
the 207 would be cool but it sounds like there is potential for lots of pain involved in the swap
