Close ratio gears 06 wrx

My scoob is currently getting fresh rallispec close ration gears (1140) and I am concerned even though its a small gain, that the increase in torque could potentially be an issue to the rest of my drive line (ie. axles, diff's ect...) I'm not too familiar with how much the stock parts on the rest of the car can handle but I'd appreciate any advise for reinforcement. I also have a Perrin large TMIC, Cobb turbo back, Cobb AP, spt intake, BC coil overs. Advise much appreciated. Thx

Moore Performance has a transmission girdle you might want to look into. It reinforces the transmission case so it doesn't flex as much.

As for shorter gears causing damage to the drivetrain parts, it shouldn't do any damage. The transmission is a torque multiplier, first gear would mathematically be the largest multiplier. So, as long as your new gears are all as large or larger than the stock first gear, you aren't really getting more torque.

I'm not an expert on the 5 speed transmissions, but I've heard you shouldn't launch on it with a huge power increase. Maybe others will chime in on this.

Why are you buying those gears?

And there is no proof anywhere out there that Moore Performance blast plates actually do anything at all. Case flex is not the biggest issue, and keep in mind that there are like 30 bolts holding the case together.

The gears are stronger than stock while also being the least expensive over kaaz, ppg or a 6 speed swap. I have a few friends and acquaintances that run the rallispec 1140's and haven't had any problems. It's my daily driver so I'm not gonna be too hard em either.

They are not stronger than your stock gears. Are you replacing a broken gear set? And they will be more prone to shock loading than your stock set too.

All those are are STI RA gears.

Yes. I turned 3rd gear into gravel back in February and bent my synchro fork*. Everything I've read and most I've talked to say they are cryogenically treated and will hold up better than the stock mt-5 gears. A lot mechs suggest finding a place like dyno-comp that will treat the metal in house and not just use them out of the box as well.

Do the friends you are talking to with the same ones also running 06-07 wrx's? You have the 3.70 final drive which puts more load on your trans compared to the 3.90 of the previous years.

What used to make the STI RA gears so great was not the cryo-treating. They used to be shot-peened. Many years ago Subaru stopped doing this however.

They have the same tooth width as late MY02+ WRX gears. I'm sure they will work for a mild setup, I just didn't want you to believe that they are an upgrade in durability.

I did think they were a little bit if an upgrade in durability but nothing like the ppg or kaaz. Just a more inexpensive fix to very expensive problem. Would you suggest a different final drive to put less load on the trans?

You'll have a better chance with 08+ gears installed. Along with a 3.9 rear end.

3.9 rear isn't I. The budget and neither is the final drive for now. It does add extra stress on the trans but with in house heat treatment I don't think ill have problems for a while. I plan on rebuilding the motor and pos. water/meth and that's about it for power so it should hold up well..
