not sure if this belongs in here or not... how do you clean your engine??? can you just pop the hood, grab a hose, and go nuts?? how do you guys do it?

 

If I were you, I'd wrap a bit of tape around any succeptible electrical connections and cover the intake (if you have an open element) with a plastic bag.

There are also engine degreasers that work very very well. They are about $6. It is basically a petroleum based spray that you spray all over your engine compartment. It washes away dirt and grime when you run water over it. The best part is, since it is petroleum, it offers a limited protection against water in electrical connections. Don't expect it to hold out forever though as it is designed to wash away with the water. Any excess will evaporate away. Do not use this on a hot engine - fire hazard.

 

I heard using armor all works well in the engine bay. Just put some on like a towel, and start scrubbing! heh

I heard GUNK is for severe cases. Ie, when your engine is like impossible to clean, like so dirty that it needs those really strong acid stuff

But anyhow, you can use whichever.

 

Simple Green all the way. Engine degreasers are hard on the environment, don't let anyone see you using that stuff here in California unless you dispose of the grey water correctly.
