chirping sound..?
wass up team.. hey when ur sitting at an idle and sometimes rev ur car do u ever hear a lil chirping sound that last for a sec when the engine comes back down to around 2k rpms.. doesnt do it everytime, but it sounds like a little chirping rubbing sound (best description i could do) i notice it more in the morning but not just when my engine is cold.. help, do i have to go to the dealer and complain or is it not that big of a deal... has anyone figured out what this sound is? thanks again

I noticed the same thing before I even drove my car off the lot, March 26, 2001. I brought it up to the salesperson and started up another WRX they had on the lot. It made the same noise, so I figured it was normal. My car stopped doing this some time before 10K miles. I still don't know what it was, but it is normal and hasn't caused me any problems in 34K miles and 2+ years.
People have posted this noise quite often, so I wouldn't get too worked up over it.

hmmm , dont think its the muffler though, do to the fact it is coming from the front of the car... ive had the gf rev the car while im down by the engine.. sometimes it will do it, sometimes it wont, cant even tell what side it is coming from, sounds like in the middle or something... hmm, atleast no performace is hurt....

My recommendation is enjoying your car by doing several hundred pulls nearing red line. Your stock exhaust will get a little louder and your chirping will go away. At least that what mine did.

It's probably the blow off valve, like the most are saying here. Just go find someone with the intake silencer removed and see if it's the same noise youre talking about.
Either bov or muffler, sounds like you got nothing to worry about.

i took my 04 to the dealer to get their opinion on it, ive listened to it myself its def. coming from the muffler but i wanna new exaust anyway, no big deal, like everyone else has said its only when ur at idle and hit the gas a lil no probs driving
