certain age to test drive a car?
If they think you're serious and have the cash, they'll let you drive it - no paperwork, no worries! I test drove plenty when I was looking and never once gave them ID even - the one that asked, I refused and started walking... they reconsidered their 'policy' fast enough. (Course the salesman was a total schmooze artist
but hey, I got my test drive and then blew him off)
As others have said, your age counts against you here. Dressing smartly would probably help, as would carrying some paperwork in a folder or something - just research type printouts, not your lineage and bank accounts - and of course being confident. You will need to be the latter if you want to get a good deal anyway.

yeah this depends on the dealer.... at the dealer I work for in HI....Pflueger honda...we let anything that can walk test drive stuff....
In fact... I want people to ask me to test drive s2000's and accord coupe v6's 6spds.. i love taking them out
but yeah when i was 16 and tried to buy a civic Si in vegas 2 of the three dealerships there punked me out....on the last one I had my dad.... I was kinda pissed but got revenge when I drove the one I bought onto both of there lots and said " thanks for nothing, except a loss of a sale"
yeah I treat people good....no matter what....you have too...... its like gold walking up to you......you just never know

I went to the dealership to purchase an evo by myself, w/ the intent of actually buying it...and one of the salesman actually talked to me...i told him i'll be back tomorrow w/ my dad to get the co-sign and paperwork filled out...i came back the next day, he was there and go figure, he wouldn't even talk to me. I was like WTF?!? I was so pissed that i refused to ever buy a car from them again.
and btw, i'm 19 and i've been getting test drives in sc w/ no problem. no matter what dealership i go to. except when my old car was broke and i pulled up in my grandmothers 93 cavalier and i tried to test drive a 350z

Here is a good one for you.......I am over 30.........and look it. Rogaine would be my drug of choice if I had any more vanity.
Anyway, about a year ago, I see an MR2 Spyder at the local chevy dealer......had not seen one before so I wheel in and have a look. The salesman comes over and we talk about it for a few minutes, I tell him, "my wife is in the market for a sporty car and she would love to drive this, could I come back in a few hours with her and go for a test drive?
He says, "NO!, you can only drive this car if you are going to buy it."
So, the car has about 5k miles on it, and they are asking for something well over the original MSRP and they won't let us drive it unless we do the paperwork first.
I laughed at the guy and tell him, "that is a helluva a way to do business, I will never come back to this dealership for any reason in the world," and drove away."

I read that it doesn't matter whether you are paying cash or financing because the salesperson will still get the commission. so i do not believe that they would let me drive just because if i have money or not. i'm just too young for their sorry a#$$$#. sorry for the negativity, but that is the way it is around the nicer neighborhoods in chicago.
