I've heard a lot of complaints about the stock tires on the WRX, but I have to say that with the 700 miles of driving I did this weekend in some nasty nasty conditions, I was very imprezzed. I saw more spin-outs and cars in the ditch than I ever have - even saw one happen immediately in front of me, with the black ice on the e-way. The WRX didn't even break a sweat. The handling was almost unbelievable, the anti-lock worked great, and the acceleration was seemingly unaffected by the snow and ice. In comparison, I drove my bro-in-law's Corolla, and I think I permanently squeezed my handprints into the steering wheel. Scary! Then I hopped back into the Sube and it was like driving in the middle of summer. Very grippy. Don't get the wrong idea though - you still have to be extra careful. The AWD is certainly not a reason to disregard defensive driving. Of course you can still wipe out in this car if you don't use your head. Anyway, I just wanted to say that this car was awesome in the city and on the highway despite the adverse conditions. I'm really glad I bought this one now.

 

Try a set of snow tires if you think the RE92's are ok. You'll won't believe the differance, trust me.

 

Nice to see someone remembers that even with AWD or 4WD you can and will slide when it comes to things like Snow and (especialy) Ice, It always amazes me that some people seem to forget this, and will try to blow past you on a snow/ice covered road like you are standing still and then it always amuses me to see 'em in a ditch down the road!
