Can a WRX handle as well as a GM6 2.5RS stock?

Can a WRX handle as well as a GM6 2.5RS stock?
Kind of scared about posting this and getting flamed, but I was wondering how the extra 300-400 pounds on the new body style Imprezas effect their handling compared to the old body style GC8s (GM6s).
Any thoughts?

I autox my 2000 RS (GC6) in GS class. Our times in GS are faster than the WRX in anyclass, in my region. Either my time or another RS in GS almost always has the Fastest time for a Subaru. I have also seen a 2.2L impreza post fastest time for a Subaru at an autox. You can make your own conclusions.
