cables under spoiler equipped trunklid

cables under spoiler equipped trunklid
I was looking at a WRX today and noticed that there are cables that are bolted to the trunklid. Is this for security? Seems like a lot of work to protect a spoiler. If someone wanted my wing, I think that they would just pop the trunk and cut it.
