Another Newb here, looking for advice
Always wanted a wrx and finally got one, a 2002 with 50,000 miles on it, fresh off a lease. It is an automatic, yeah i know i know, but the only way my wife would allow me to get (since she can't drive 5 speed). Paid 13,900 for it, so my first question would be did I get a good deal. Car is in mint condition.
I am coming from having a 02 mustang convertible. finally made the switch. So now how much difference is having an automatic vs 5 speed going to make from the occasional race? I have read the wrx can take a mustang gt among other cars off the line for the first 1/4 or so, would it be the same in automatic?
Another question is about the BOV. Is there any benifit for this? From what I have read it release pressure on the turbo. Is that correct and does it make sense to have it on an automatic?
Third which I have been searching for is the proper way to launch with an automatic. And then after the launch is it just flooring it? Thanks for your help, sorry for all the questions...

First, sounds like a good deal to me. Not great, but certainly not horrible. Don't really know the answer to the second question. I don't drag race, so I haven't run against a Mustang GT.
On a stock setup, there is rarely any benefit to an aftermarket BOV (unless you like the woosh sound). You're right, it does release pressure. And pressure is power, so if you release the pressure, you need to build it back up before you start making boost again. The only reason to have an aftermarket BOV is if your setup is making a lot more boost then stock, and needs to release pressure from time to time so as to not blow the motor.
You can do a few things. On is to stand on the brake and rev the engine. When the tree at the drag strip signals go, left off the brake and floor it. I don't know if thats the safest way to do it (don't have an auto) but that is one way to launch it.

The time difference between the MT vs. AT is about 1 sec difference between 60's and 1/4's.
