Finally I am ready for a power upgrade ..........but before I do it I went to the dealer to get my scheduled oil change done...and guess what happens....apparently the car is consuming oil...leak down test failed as well...know they wanna do some parts changes which require 1-2 days of work on the car...so much for trusting that engine...after this I doubt I will do any upgrades...most likely sell the car...anyone else had this issue ?

I may be reading this too literally, but please tell me this isn't your first oil change.
And I have not heard of many low mileage problems....in what manner do you drive the car? Did you break it in gently etc... etc...
Also, I think you may be going overboard in your no mods/sell the car reaction. Trus me youll regret it. It reminds me of somethign in my life. I will always regret drowning my puppy because it crapped on the floor after I got it.
^^Im kidding about the puppy but I think you are jumping the gun.
Good Luck.

is it a factory defect?
or how are u guys destroying your cars????
when i drive, i ususally drive kinda hard and nothing is wrong with my car....at least nothing really audible or visible.
but i wish the best of luck to you and your cars, but think twice if you are considering to sell your scooby

I wouldn't worry about the engine issue. Sometimes stuff happens..they're going to fix it and you'll be on your way. If I were you, I'd wait for another 4k or 5k miles and have them do a test on the engine to make sure it's still operating properly, then mod it.
Just be thankful they found the problem BEFORE you modified the car instead of AFTER, or you'd be paying for the repairs.

Thanks for all the thoughts..
just to clear up...
-This is my third oil change (I like to change every 3k miles)...
-I drive below 4k in the morning until 10 miles or so..to make sure everthing is warmed up...
-I kinda baby the car but once warmed up I like to push it...that's way i bought it..
-The first 1500 miles I was slowly braking the car in...
I know I was a little upset about the engine problem and my conclusion because of that.....but having a problem after 9k isn't what I call reliable...so doing mods after I get the car back again is something I have to think about now...
Let's see...how the car will be after all the repair...I probably wait 5-6k and make my decision afterwards...
Siyah the scooby with a scar now

could you post what they had to repair ,how much oil per 1k miles was it consuming.if you didnt no,the engines are put on a dyno and tested before install at factory.just concerned since i have seen zero failures of this engine.recently went to subaru factory and saw how much attention and testing goes to each engine part before and after assembly, seems over kill but it is a excellant product.agian please post what they did, thanx.

I don't know if anyone notaced but I said I was going to leave the I-club cause I was mad at my RS for having a bunch of problems, basically the dealership told me I need a new engine but I'm not giving up, I'm going to drive that thing untill the engine explodes... or when I can afford a new engine, whichever comes first!

Did you notice anything before you found out? I have an 04 WRX wagon with about 4K on the clock, 2 oil changes so far with syth oil. I am hearing a "knocking" sound when engine is cold and even after the temp gauge is "warm". After driving for a 1/2 hour or so it seems to go away.
Break in was done per the specs.
Am I being paranoid or is this normal? I don't like the sound of a possible bent valve!

I have a knock in the morning when it's been real cold Poe....hasn't been noticeable really until this morning cause it was around 30 degrees last night...car was pissed this morning until I got it warmed up.
I also have a hick up in the low 4k range of the rpm's until it's totally warm and sometimes after...that's the one that freaks me out cause someone on the board had that and his engine tanked and they had to put a new one in...
But here's how I look at it...I bought a 100k warranty...if that car blows up...oh well...they give me a wrx to drive until mine is fixed or replaced...that's why I spent $1800 on a warranty.
I really don't foresee having too many problems with this car though.

Yeah Oneman,
I had the same thoughts regarding the warranty, although I just have the 3 year deal. But hell if it blows it blows. My problem, if there is one really, is a lot of my deciesion to buy this car is the fact they are supposed to be bullet proof. Granted, it's a "high performance" engine, but Subaru is know for durability. If I wanted a genade, I would have bought a SRT. (Kidding all you Mopar fans.)
But overall I just f'in love this car!

I agree.....I too bought this car over an audi because of the maintenance and durability histories of the two vehicles.
My last car was nothing but trouble and I wanted something that I didn't have to worry about for the next 5 or more years.
That's why I bought the warranty too. Security. I was always fixing stuff on my last car and I just want to have fun and not stress about my car every day. People say I seem happier since I got my car and I never complain about it. I hope it stays that way.
Oh and subtech...I cleared out my PM box.
