95 Impreza - What do i need
ok i found a very very cheap 95 subaru impreza awd - it does have some small problems but if i ever bought this car i'd rip it apart anyway... the major problem is its an automatic..
now - as i said i would love to gut the thing and put in a new engine ect... not tryin to go real crazy but still make it a bad *** car..
im still trying to debate if it would be worth it - i would love to turn the auto in a manual but that would probaly not be worht it... so i guess my question is..
1) is there any cost efficiant way to get the auto trans it had to work with a new engine... (ej20 25) and how long it would last if possible
2) is it possible to swap out like a 96 subaru L manual (and if so how long would it last) and parts involved
3) or would this be a waste of my time

Hey. Here is my opinion. I own a 97 L. If you want to make your money's worth, you should swap in either a JDM drivetrain or an STi drive train. If you just want WRX performance, go out and buy a used bugeye. This is the assumption that you are having someone do the swap for you.
I don't know if an auto will work with a newer engine or not... but I would assume that you would need to get an engine with the same type of tranny ECU. I think the 4EAT (tranny) will be fine with any NA engine, and the WRX engine, however... I don't think it'll last that long with an STi spec engine.
In my honest opinion, get a rolled STi and swap it in. If not, get a JDM front clip and do the same.

Yeah... you'll need a ton of things, but if you get a front clip, you'll have everything you'll need to make the thing run. I haven't done this before, but yeah.. you got a ton of things you'll need to do. AT to MT conversion. New wiring harness. Turbo crossmember. Best thing is to ask a shop that knows how to do the swap. I hear the hardest thing about a swap is the wiring.
