5 speed gear sets being built by Buschur Racing....

Great news as of today!!!

I am being told that in less than 2 weeks I will have the first set of 3rd and 4th gears!!

Some of you may or may not know that I broke all the teeth off my 3rd gear in my 2006 WRX TR with only 2200 miles on it. The car had the stock STi turbo and was making 395 ft lbs and 295 whp. Ran 12.1 at 113 mph. The gears that were available were just too much money and too much noise for me. So off we went on a mission to have a cheaper alternative made to JUST fix the problem at hand, 3rd gear.

This is what is going to be done. 3rd gear is going to be completely made from new stronger material that I am being told will be SUBSTANTIALLY stronger than the stock junk being used. Then 3rd and fourth will be what they call "enhanced" the new 3rd gear and the factory 4th gear will be cryo treated, shot peened and then surface enhanced which is basically polished to debur it. The "enhancing" alone adds a bunch of strength to the gears so this will be a good upgrade for 4th.

The pricing I don't have yet. The gear sets are going to originate from a set of factory new gears and then have 3rd gear changed/replaced and 4th just "enhanced".

I have a price for the modifications and new gears but I still have to get with Subaru and find the best pricing on the actual gear sets to start with.

Looking good!!!

hmm, I'll be interested in seeing how these turn out and what the price will be. They are going to have to be pretty cheap to be much of an advantage over cryo treated ra gears for those looking for strength and obviously performance. Are these going to be one off parts or are you going to market these?

Just cryo'ing the stock 3rd gear for the WRX is not going to help it. It is underbuilt and made from material that is too weak to handle it's job.

From what I am gathering 1st and 2nd are not weak, the 3rd gear in the 5 speed is the most commonly broken gear.

These gears will be marketed and sold.

The 1st, 2nd and 4th gear out of my trans were like brand new, for reference. While the 3rd was completely missing all of the teeth.

i think he is speaking of the 06+ wrx. like 90% of the gear failures are the 3rd.

what is the stock MY06 TR tranny rated at? I have never seen these numbers anywhere? Also, what kind of numbers would the new gears be able to withstand?

I am kinda a noob when it comes to the 5speeds now but I thought the problem with the trans was more of the Case than anything. I remember hearing that the case it self was week and flexed under quick shifts causing the teeth to spred between shifts and leting the teeth slip. maby this was only on the 02-05 trannys I dont know if someone could clear that up I would be greatfull.
