2006 or 2007 (need a new car)

Ok, so heres the deal, I'm buying WRX. That is decided, no sti, no rs, no tr, a wrx...

I've spoken with a few sales people and gotten a firm answer from 3 differnt sales people stating that the 2007 will be a different body (minor changes in the grand scheme of things, but still a change) - If you wanna know what I'm talking about do a search on this forum for the 2007 WRX.

My issue is, should I wait for the 2007 model with the new headlights, or buy a 2006 ?

I've got a line on a 2006 limited edition WRX (sun roof, leather racing seats, though I wouldnt consider them a racing seat unless they support a 5 point harness, fog lights, spoiler, 17's) in the color I want for about 24K.

But, I dont wanna be that guy who cant change out his head lights, front end, or any other cosmetic options. I want to be able to make changes, and I'm not yet confident that there will be a fair amount of aftermarket support for the 2006 bodystyle.

And unless I get some news that the power plant is gonna be changed, or the horse power increased, it will end up just being a cosmetic problem, wich is why I'm a perfect superficial american barbarian. (and lovin it, no fat chicks)

Any suggestions or thought would be appreciated. Any other news stories and information as well.

Thanks

buy a 1998-2001 RS instead... do a STi Swap... IMO its waayy, cooler than the 07s, plus you'll get the sleeper factor...

but, between 06 and the 07... I'll get the 06... I think they went too far here.

re: 07 New head lights

yea, it seems they are making another change, but I base that assumption on what I've heard from sales people, and images gleaned from sites like this.

I will probably follow thru on the 06, I just dont want to be limited to aftermarket options in the cosmetic department.

-Thanks

I found hardly anything on a 2007 WRX. I don't see where it really looked significantly different from the 2006s.

I suggest waiting until the 2007s come out and then getting a 2006 "left-over." You'll probably be able to get an even better deal on them....

I had a 2002 GTI 1.8T and ditched it for a Suby. The GTI was a GREAT everyday car with a hint of "sport" thrown in, but it surely didn't handle like a car called a "GTI" should handle. The acceleration was "snappy," but not fast. I did purchase an APR chip for it, and lemme tell ya, that APR chip did wonders for the acceleration. I was quite surprised at the "seat of the pants" gains that it picked up! It was clearly MUCH quicker than stock! I also had a Forge RACE diverter valve. Those were the only mods I had done to it.

When the factory Eagle RS-A tires went bald (the WORST tires I have EVER had on a vehicle) I replaced them with BFG Traction T/As, which did harshen up the ride a tad, but made up for it with their handling capabilities. The car felt much lighter on its feet with them. FWIW, I have NEVER seen a VW that came equipped with RSAs from the factory WITHOUT a spare tire on their car. Those tires just SUCK, PERIOD.

Anyhoo, I traded it in on my STi and haven't looked back since. The GTI was a great economical car, as well as very reliable (never a problem within 51,000 miles), and it never ceased to amaze with the quantity of stuff that would fit in the hatch with the rear seats down. Honestly, it was a GREAT car. It just fell short in the performance arena. There are A LOT of things I miss about that car, but the marshmellow handling and rubbery 5-spd are things I don't miss a bit.

For the record, I may just buy a GTI as my next car when I retire the STi to "weekend status" like I have with my Camaro.

The typical salesman doesn't have a clue... I know, they use me when they need a
'turn' (cahnge of salesman) because someone has gone with performance or techinical questions. Despite what you have heard, Subaru has shot their wad with the '06 grill and face (love it or NOT).

If they change headlights you can be SURE if you just have to have them, they will swap out. They are not about to change grill/bumper etc. If you got a line on a leather/WRX @ $24K. Take it. You would never see a price for that car here in the NW for that. We are talking a TR up here for that price.
