Join the hybrid fam. You can get a ej257 block from the factory for 1700 on eBay from a Subaru dealer

That's not the economical option. You will need a new EJ205 short block and you could need some head work. Only a shop can tell you what it will cost.

i found a engine for 2800 with 75k miles would it be a good idea just to swap it instead of buyiing a shortblock.

Complete engine swap would be good. If it doesn't run, you can then rebuild. But a straight swap for what should be a working engine is good. $2800 is on the high side for a ej205 I'd think.

By oil gauge you mean your dipstick?!?!?!

The light that comes on is not an oil level light... it is an oil pressure light.

I was thinking the same thing. Probably has an aftermarket one I'm hoping. Either way... gotta check that oil man. It's critical in FI cars.

My suggestion.. get a full EJ205. If you're just looking to economical this is your best bet.

1. It's the cheapest motor option.
2. If it's complete it's less labor (less money) at a shop.
3. You don't have to worry about the heads.

You can then go through what is left of the one you blew up. If the heads are good...sell them. If they're no good... sell them for less or make a table out of the motor and sell that.

There's an ad that pops up on craigslist every now and again. $1800 for a complete EJ205.

If you're talking about an EJ205... that's a damned rip off. You should be able to find an EJ255 for that neighborhood.
