it's a $30k sub-compact, not an exotic. get over it.

Well you go ahead, buy your Sti and park it in the street and see how quickly it is either keyed, have dew from a tree drop on it (really annoying to take out), have some drunken idiot sidewipe it, or have it stolen. Then you will understand how much that car is worth.

No offense guys but 30,000 isn't that much money, go try to buy a nice medium size SUV and see how much it is, and hell don't even bother looking at a full size truck then. And as far as crime rates go most people won't know what this car is and the thiefs will be stealing accords and explorers because their is more money in it. Look at the figures for this country and see what gets stolen the most.

In my eyes, 30000 is a lot of money considering my yearly salary. Having it stolen is one thing. Having to repair the car because some idiot swipes it on the street is another. And codex.. Answers to your questions.
Going grocery shopping? I'd park it like I'd park my 2.5RS. On a corner spot that has my drivers side door facing the passenger side of the other car's door. I avoid parking next to crappy looking cars and park it next to expensive cars or cars that people seem to take good care of. But first and foremost, I try to park far enough away that it'll be away from other cars. It is even good for your exercise.

Mall shopping? Same thing. Park it in a lot or garage with the same technique used above.
Parking lot in the airport? I never do that. Take a cab.
You have a point though. Good to be consiencious but not paranoid. I could have the car in a garage, an earthquake would strike and topple the garage and flatten my Sti. But, to me, where everything over 300$ is a big purchase, I have to be at least a bit concerned where I park it.
My 0.02,

Hey Tim,
Thought it was only me that lived by those safe-parking principles; drives my wife nuts cruising round the mall looking for a suitable place to park..........I'd rather walk through snow drifts than risk a ding from some inconsiderate **** who parks next to me......wow, I must be sane after all ?

I look at it this way, a fast car is just a big toy, its meant to be played with, destroyed and fixed. I am not going to be worried what happens if my car gets stolen or messed up, that is what insurance is for. I do agree that you should look after your things but being afraid of what might happen is just stupid, life to short to go through it like that. I have an 02 M3 that I am supercharging, and yes we are lowering the compression in the motor before we supercharge it. But if I do blow the motor up, oh well buy a new one and try again. In this game you have to pay to play, if you don't want to pay then you can't play. Now I am not saying that everyone here needs to be ready to reck their car, in order to own the car but if something does happen its not a big deal, fix it and move on. If you want to try and take preventive measures to stop things from happening then go ahead but don't laugh or make fun of people who only have the ability to park the car in the street or just choose to do so. Remember guys in the end it is only a car, a real performer but still only a car.

First thing insurance companies give you money for your car, they don't go out and find you a car. Again with a little patients I am sure this guy found another car.
Second thing if a pro thief wants your car, I don't care if you park it in a garage with 20 alarms, he is still going to get your car so worring about that is stupid, if it happens it happens and their isn't a thing you are going to do about it.
When I said theives, I meant the normal chop shop low level thief not a pro, they don't concern themselves with a lot of high level cars, it is easier to take the hondas and toyota because their easier to chop and sell the parts.
If you have a nice car, you should own a beater, that way you can go to the mall, or whatever and not worry about your car getting messed up. And yes if you can afford a 32,000 car you can afford a 3000 honda, Nissan, or whatever.

i'm not getting an STi or do i really care where others part theirs when they get them....I just want to point out to all of the people bickering about this that not everyone lives in the same conditions you do. think about at. so maybe where you are if you leave your WRX or whatever you currently have on the side of the road or even in the driveway uncovered it'll get keyed, broken in to, vandelized, or stolen. well that's unfortunate that it is like that. people should respect others property, nad not be jealous about what others have and they don't.
on the flip side. before i moved off to college i could park my WRX on the curb with no worries. i'd be a weird day when more than 10 cars would pass mine on any given day. and people in my neighborhood respected my property. the only thing i had to worry about is if i got too close to the curb.
i didn't have any problems. i know that there was a chance something could happen to it. but i knew that it was generally safe to park my car on the side of the road. (although it was garage most of the time)
so before you start 8itching at others about where they park THEIR car...think a second on what their conditions might be.
