Where I bought my STI

Please post where you bought your STI here and how much you paid:
I bought mine at Senator Subaru in Sacramento (ask for Courtney) for $34,958 ($3k over MSRP). I know I could have bought it for MSRP from a number of Subaru dealers I called (http://www.carlist.com/cardealers/su...alifornia.html) but I just did not wait another week. And besides, I just got it in time for my birthday today.
If you call around, you will notice that the average markup is around $5k. It is like that here in L.A. and there in S.F. That is why I flew to Sacramento ($100 air fare) just to save an extra $2000 in markup and to get the car NOW!!!
It was great driving back to L.A. in my new black STI since 1) it gave me time to break it in and 2) it gave me a number of hours of driving thrill. I currently own a blue 02 WRX with $6k worth of modifications and it still does not compare to the new STI in terms of performance and handling. One immediate thing I noticed is that when you are in 6th gear, there is NO NEED TO DOWNSHIFT to pass up other cars. Turbo lag? What's that?

Deposits are a fallacy
In case many of you already put down a deposit thinking that all dealers will call you as soon as "your" car comes in, you may want to think twice. During my research of calling all the dealers in California, there are many that are willing to have ANYONE buy the car ahead of the people on the list - obviously at a markup. I know it is not fair, but whoever said car dealers are always fair?
If you have the patience to wait (which I didn't) for several weeks or months until you get the exact color combination, more power to you. However, if you want to be one of the very first in your city to have an STI, there is a price to pay. Remember, only 300 STIs are being shipped per month to over 280 Subaru dealers nationwide. Some dealers will get up to 5 a month, some will be lucky to get 5 a year.
The hottest color combination is the blue with gold wheels since these are the official rally colors. I just received word from Stevens Creek Subaru in San Jose that they will have one this color available this Monday 6/16/2003 (VIN: JF1GD70624L506441) . The MSRP is $32217 (w/ boost gauge and added security package) and he is willing to sell it for $35217 (only $3k markup vs. the $5k-10k markups by other price eye-gouging dealers are asking) .
If you want it, give Mike Schwartz a call at 888-320-6365.

Only $3k markup, only $5k mark-up.........wow, some people have money to burn. Just think of the mods you could buy for that money (decent stereo system and floor mats at least !!). I wouldn't pay a penny over MSRP.....patience is a virtue and I've outgrown trying to impress my peers.
However, I think the West Coast is a "law unto itself" and getting an STi without paying a mark-up out there is difficult (but do-able). Luckily I'm living in the same location as Van Bortel Subaru who are selling all their STi's at $400 over invoice ($29,000)....we do get pretty sh**ty weather here though, so it's not all a bed of roses.

Hi guys,
new to the list. I just bought a white STi for MSRP at Lithia Subaru in Reno, NV. I live in Las Vegas (450miles south) but I have family that helped out on the deal.
They wanted 13k over sticker (YEAHHH RIGHT) plus another 1450.00 for a dealer installed stereo. I told them I'd give them 450.00 for the stereo. No dice...they wanted to charge me 500.00 TO PULL IT OUT. So they ended up pulling it out for free and I got the car at MSRP.

Stevens Creek
>>>>Ok guys like ( Laureno ) said, call ( Mike ), and ask for an Sti. What you need to do is say you'll come down today and pick one up for the $3k over MSRP. I just got blue/silver.
Now the drive was impresive. I am coming from a modified 92 Cobra. Granted v8 vs flat 4 is a big difference. But the turbo and torque are incredible even for just hitting 4500 rpm. As an example I had a 70- Z28 back in the 80's that was modified and had 350 with a suck thru style turbo setup from Gail Banks. For those of you who are use to the rush from the turbo when it kicks in well the Sti is very close to that feeling that I had in the Camero. Big difference back then is we didn't have intercoolers, fuel injection, and ECU's to help us. My Sti is being deliverd next week and "I can hardly wait till the break in is complete.
Oh, and man for just the few min. that I drove the car I had a guy in a 2-3 year old M3 pull up next to me and he couldn't take is eye off the car....

If your in So Cali, you should call Charles or Connie at Norm Reeve's Subaru in Temecula (909-699-3331 ) and tell him Dave sent you (I bought their first black one for $2K over MSRP). They knew that all of the other dealers in the area were charging 5 -7K over, but they decided that they could not do that to their customers and went with a smaller mark-up.
