The car is the same, besides the engine. My sources in Japan say, that that EJ25 STi engine is not very receptive to the mods. Its too early to say yet, however.
hey alex
that is not good news. but i am curious how they came to that conclusion? it would seem that the standard mods would yield some hefty hp/tq gains. i am confused how they came to that conclusion. can you explain better what they meant?

Well, of course, basic mods will work fine, but once you start pushing major power, thats where it will matter.
Of course, thats not a fact, but rather an opinion of someone who did extensive testing for Subaru of Japan.

wht do you mean by "major power"? knowing you that is like 4-600 hp.
i will be overly happy with geting near the 350-370 range. i am thinking a bigger turbo, and chipping/PEMS, exhaust, uppipe, and intake, and i think 350 is a reachable goal. above that and you need to up the fuel, etc.
oh man. i havent even got the car yet and i have already modded it to 370 horses..... I NEED A JOB!!!!

We all know how much the US likes to neuter cars down with pointless cats. Strip the three cats they'll undoubtedly stuff in the piping and you're already looking at a significant gain.
After that, the only thing I can figure would be trying to strengthen the internals so that they can handle the higher amounts of boost once you slap on the bigger turbo, but that's not going to be a cheap procedure.
Not only that, but I thought I read something about a higher compression... That's not good news for people who want to turn the boost up on an otherwise stock car. I think part of the WRX'es ability to take a lot out of mods came from the low compression. The car was tuned overly safe... I dont know how the STi will like that.
Don't get me wrong... I still want one!

who won't be picking one up any time soon because the mileage on his WRX makes it next to impossible for a trade in.

We have lower compression and less boost stock than the *** and euro STi's because of emissions. To compensate we have a 2.5l block which actually gives us more hp and torque than the *** and euro versions. The 2.5 L block is not the same as in the 2.5 rs (i believe its a semi closed WRX block) and is signifiantly stronger. Boost away.
