Stupid honda imports
I get so ticked off when I am driving around town and see these stupid apc g'd up hondas and stuff. These people act like putting a gigantic wing on the back of their front wheel drive car instantly adds 40 hp. I am a student currently but I hope to buy a new or used, preferibly used, STI when I graduate in three years! Then I'll show these little kids what a real car is!

I dont hate all Honda owners, just the teen agers that drive around with cars that they think can beat any car in town. Honda makes a good car. I have no problem with the car itself, heck one of my friends has a '91 CRX si with all kinds of engine mods but he does not drive around acting like an idiot slapping APC stickers all over it and racing everyone in sight even though his car could probably take most imports where I live.

that is very funny.
however, i would just like to ask or point out, and don't take this the wrong way, i'm not trying to be a fight-picker or anything like that. it's just that i see many people all crazy about the STi, to the point that they're actually selling their WRX's and jumping ship to the STi, which seems pointless in actually buying the WRX in the first place. i mean, why buy the WRX, why didn't they just wait for the STi. i don't know, it just seems that many people are just trying to have the best car out at the time, first it was the WRX and now the STi. also, it seems like people are just trying to be better than others, you know, like hey look at me, i have an STi. it's sort of a bragging right type of thing rather than a personal thing. i guess i just makes me frown when people here state that the WRX isn't even close to what the STi is and start putting the poor thing down (hear the violin music). hell, if it wasn't for the WRX, then everything unfolding right now like the STi vs. evolution thing and SRT 4's. i don't know, i guess i'm just a very very proud WRX owner and will always be. i've been waiting for this car for how long and i finally got it. i know it isn't an STi, but who cares. to me, it's just as good. okay, now i'm ready for the bad comments.

In response to clamdip, RIGHT ON! Props for sticking to things that you judge for yourself as what you like. Some people like to jump on the next trendy thing that comes along in hopes of getting approval from others. Its kind of empty for them, because after the intial excitement is over they need to look for that high again.
We have a Legacy Wagon because it suits our needs and lifestyle and are fans of the WRX and STi but chose the better car for us. Sometimes all that hype is just hype, and people don't really know why they like and are so fanatic about the things they are into. Thanks for keeping it real.
I thought stickers and big wings add more horsepower than that! I actually think they look more like shopping carts!

Personally, I think most who are doing the WRX-to-STi switch are doing it for one of three reasons:
(1) After owning the WRX for a couple of years, they realized how great an all around car it is (AWD, performance, price, etc.), so stepping up to the Big Daddy WRX STi is a logical progression
(2) When they bought their WRXs, nobody knew for sure that the STi was coming to the U.S. Once they found out last year, they drooled and waited for it and now it's here, so they jumped
(3) Some people just couldn't wait for the STi and/or couldn't afford it, so they bought the WRX so they could enjoy it while they wait to buy an STi for various reasons (to save up money, wait for dealers to start offering the STi at under MSRP (like Evos now), wait for bugs to be identified and worked out, etc.).
As for the riced out Hondas with scaffolding rear wings, fart cans, and Cap'n Crunch stickers all over their cars...I don't know how to explain it. I don't "hate" 'em, I just don't understand them or what they are thinking by spending all of that money to put such crap on their cars. My only guess is that their friends talk about it and do it (i.e. throw tons of Rice a Roni on their slammed Civics), so they want to do it to. Eh, whatever floats their boat I guess, but I don't understand it.
Hell, I think the new STi is too similar as it is. To the even further removed joe average driver, the Sti is the exact same as the fully, wheeled, winged, slammed import.
I like to drive like a normal person in daily traffic, with the occasional spirited sprint but leave most of the truly adrenaline pumping stuff to the track. How can you have the car that can do it all without some sort of compromise on one side or the other? So for now, my impression of maturity to others, not that it should matter, gets lumped in with the bewinged set.
Oh well...
