sti vs evo....evo better?
i own a wrx and i was so excited about the sti...especially after they revealed it was going to be 300hp and have the center diff. and all. BUT now i am not so sure. i have read a lot of magazines and so far i have seen that hte evo is fast 0-60 and in the quarter by atleast .2 seconds. not to mention the evo is supposed to have better handling and it costs less. Even with all this stuff i still wanted a Sti over an Evo, but i don't know anymore. Subaru dealers are HORRIBLE. i know lots of people that own W's and almost everyone is having a problem with the dealers. I think just because of the dealers and how much **** they give everyone, for having any mods, not admitting to bulletins on the clutch and just all around being *******s, i really would by the evo over any subaru from now on. its just to much of a hassle. It could just be the dealers around syracuse, i don't know, but its bad. if anyone lives near syracuse and knows a good dealer, let me know, cause i am very fed up with trying to get little things taken care of. sorry....had to vent, but its still all true. I can't see mitsubishi being as stubborn as subaru about doing work on cars that are owned by "the youth of today". its just bad business. i would love to hear you own problems or congratulations to work done by dealers.

Hey, what are the real numbers between the two? I keep seeing 13.8 and 13.0 for the Evo and 13.2-13.3 for the STi in quarter mile numbers. How can the Evo out perform the STi with less power...or is the 13.0 a misprint (MotorTrend)? They both weight roughly the same.

evo could easily out perform the sti....even with less horsepower and same weight. depends on the drive train and how efficient it is. Even though the Sti has the center differential for more power to the real wheels...its still another differential...which means more weight and more friction. also how fast each car spools and how efficient the turbos are...to much stuff involved to base it just on horsepower...though i could be wrong
ITS ALL GOOD!
evryone keep in mind most dealers are stingy, Mitsu. Subaru. and all the rest of them its business u know, im not standing up for them suckas but i will say this, dont go off and judging a car company by thier dealers (unfortunatly, it should be a part), I see where you guys are coming from with this hatred towards Dealers, but please dont dogg the subby's. Last thing is the Evo really cheaper than the STi cause last time I checked all the prices of the STi umm how do i say... havnt been released yet. all the prices we here are just rumors, so lets wait to see what happens in june. and good luck to all weather u get an STi or an EVO cause whats the point of havvin a Subby without havin some competition, and to all them Die hard Subby fans dont discourage the purchas of an Evo cause thats Just more Subby Snacks for US!!

I would also like to weigh in and say that the Subaru dealers are quite poor. I have the clutch noise, and they are playing dumb with me. I know they know what it is, so it's really maddening to see them pretend they've never hear of it. Some of my worst experiences with dealers have been with them. I'm not knocking the WRX cars, just this particular dealer. They also sell Mazdas, and my friends with the Mazdas have also had bad experiences. The Pontiac dealer who serviced my last car was much better, if you can believe such a thing.

yeah...i have the same problem...friends of mine have even brought in the Service Bulletin and they said they had never seen it. he called Subaru 1-800-Subaru3 and got in touch with the local district rep and then he made the dealer fix it. but yeah...subaru dealers are really really bad

Every dealer in the world will hassle you if you request service, especially at their expense. But when you add aftermarket parts it makes it kinda hard to prove your point. Cars come from the factory a certain way because thats the most optimal for reliability and when you change parts, you sacrifice reliability. Dealers have every reason to be hesitant about repairs, its their money.

With better ride quality, linear and smooth acceleration, which is really better? Are you really gonna notice a .2 second difference in handling when you probably wont push it to the limit anyhow.
The STi is at a modest 14.5 psi and the EVO is pushin 19.5 psi. I thinking were gonna be seeing just as many 11 sec STis around as there are 12 sec wrxs.

Car and driver just did this test.........
0-60 STI 4.6
EVO 5.0
quarter mile was like 13.2 vs. 13.8...........
skidpad was the same (.90) although the evo was quite abit faster on the road course. Priced nearly the same they liked the EVO better.............
Bonemania try VanBortel Subaru in Victor NY. (vanbortelsubaru.com) I have had incredible experience with them. Bought my WRX 8 mos ago at 200 over invoice, they held it for 2 weeks with 0 deposit, yes 0 deposit!! Service is top notch. I know they have a huge waiting list on sti's but are selling at like 500 over invoice which works out to about 29,000.
