STi Stereo (or non-stereo)

Anyone know if the STi comes with speakers or anything or is the car completely bare of all stereo equipment? Just curious. I mena it has to have atleast the speaker enclosures and such ready, but just wondering. If only a head unit is needed it cuts costs incredibly.

Thanks, Dave

Their stated goal in dropping the sound system from the 'base level' trim was weight savings. Therefore I would think that it is indeed completely devoid of all such equipment, especially speakers.

Personally, I don't think it's a big deal. I would rather have no stereo in the car and install what I want (provided there are places in the door for speakers), rather than pay $500-$900 for a stereo I don't like that much...I totally agree with this...

Oh yeah, no argument there, just hoped all the mounting locations were there is all. Im sure they are. I usually replace all the speakers anyways so this will actually save money in the long run.

Even if there isn't any wiring for speakers in the car, you can always run wiring yourself. Subarus are incredibly easy to tear apart on the inside...so running wires to a small amplifier should be no trouble at all...

it probably would...

since the stereo is available as an option on the STi. They just left it out for weight, but everything else should be there.

later,
i.

That is kinda hard to believe they omitted the stereo just to save weight. That little bit of weight would not be a critical issue. What about the AC and power windows? You'd save more weight if you canned the AC!

Yeah true. I guess it makes sense if the headunit is an option they wouldnt want the dealer to have to install speakers and wiring, so Im sure its all there. Still a wierd idea, whats a headunit weight like 2-3 pounds if that??? If they left out every part of the system it would make more sense since speakers weigh more, but god we arent talking a full race car here, whats an extra 10 lbs. Oh well. Their car, their ideas...

IMO, the stereo deal is just a rumor floating around. Since everything you read in a magazine or web, none of them mention anything about a stereo. But no radio...that is really strange and odd. Think about it, AC, power windows/locks, keyless entry, cruise, digital clock, overhead map lights, airbags, etc......no radio?? hmmmm Its really no big deal to me...i'm gonna rip all the stuff outta my car anyhow. Although my deck shows some wear, but it will work!

Wow, interesting. Thanks for the info.

I was just thinking...in al the pics I have seen from the auto shows and the STi sites, the cars that do have the radios installed, where is the antenna? Is it in the rear window? Do they have to drill and install a manual one? IMHO, drilling and installing would suck hairy a$$...
