I called their new car sales. I was told I would be emailed the latest info they received from Subaru about the STI. I was also told that the government was limiting the import of the cars to 400 a month, and that the first few months would be special order only. I'll post here the information when I receive it. Sounds like a load of bollocks to me. Why would they do this, and on what statutory authority?

 

I agree..the press release states "4000-5000" cars are scheduled to come to the US..but remember the WRX press release said 10,000 would come to the US and eventually they sold 20,000 or so...I think Subaru thinks there is only demand for 4-5k cars/years and are being conservative as usual--implying if demand exceeds supply they will send more our way...

 

Well they might or they might not. It's not so easy with a powerplant that is configured for the N/A market only. When they needed to meet unexpected U.S. WRX demand in a hurry, they simply reallocated some of Australia's allotment to us. Not so easy this time.

My "bollocks" comment was about the idea that it was the government setting a monthly import quota specifically on the STi. There isn't any reason why they couldn't import 10,000 a month if there was a market for that many.
