Sti internals
Sti internals
Ok this is what i gather from some recon i was doing today.
thanks sub-sonic
1: the active valve control is realy a computer controled cam timing like in a propeler pitch control in an aircraft.
laymans term: adjustable cam timing controled by the ecu.
no extra internals in the head except for the added stuff on the cam gear.
2: intercooler sprayer will automaticly come on at a certain RPM.

about the internals. I talked to a guy at a car show yesterday. He was the owner of a few cars one being an R34. He told me not to get an STI unless im gonna keep it stock. The reason being that Subaru doesn't have good reputation for the motor to be modified. Said the internals arent that great. Any thoughts?

The guy was talking out his *** basically. No other Sti's around the world have the 2.5. All others have the 2.0 and they are modified to hell and back. So where does this so called reputation come from? The 2.5 has all forged internals. More items in this engine that are forged then what are forged in the EVO. it can handle ALOT of power. The block is very strong and has been reinforced. The 2.5 is going to make a hell of a lot of power.
very true, but then again this motor has not been tested by the public. Who's to say that their won't be recalls on this car? And who is to say that it will produce big power, sure the it has the potential but where are facts? This is what scares me.

I actually happen to own a R34 GTR myself, not kidding..... And I have all the respect to the WRX STi and hoping to get one in the future. Don't let this guy talk you down. The WRX STi's engine internal have tons of potential.

revvv_pshhh........no I wasn't at the online showoff show in Redondo.
adityaax...........you are right, in general iron block would hold much more power then aluminum block. That is why stock block on the RB26DETT and the 2JZGTE would hold 1000+HP.
But who wants 1000+HP from a WRX anyway. My prediction is the stock WRX STi internal should easily hold 400HP at the wheel, which is way enough for a street car unless you are just insane.

Car Info: dream car Subaru STi
true that. im sure he is just jealous of your WRX STi, if u mod up your STi its gona be one lean mean speed machine. by the way, i SWEAR id rather have an STi over an R34.... as a matter of fact now that i think about it.. realistically.. id rather have an STi over any car on this earth!!! omg i love that car.
EJ25 durability
I know in the sandrail industry Subaru EJ 25 engines are very popular, durable, and routinely put out 400hp+. This is the old non-turbo engine modified for turbocharging. The parts used are not even as good as the new STi EJ25 engine internals.
Also, I find it interesting that the boxer engine design is inherently strong. This engine design is found in Porsches, aircraft engines and Subarus. A good choise for a starting point.
