Sti Boost?

does anyone know on the potential boost level that the STI turbo can handle? i know that the wrx could take up to 17 max, any thoughts?

NOPE. The USDM STi 2.5L engine is a newly designed power plant made specially for this car. The limits can't be possibly known yet cause we don't have em yet!

Its not all about PSI anyhow! You can have pressure but you also have to have flow. Its a combination of PSI, CFM's, fuel enrichment and proper timing.

Even though the new 2.5 hasn't been tested yet, we all know it will handle substantially more than 14.5 psi boost. That nothing for the setup its got. Just as 13.5 wasn't much for a stock WRX. Subaru always leaves plenty of room. Also the IHI series turbo can easily push 18+ psi boost.

I can't wait to see how fast the STi is going to be with just exhaust mods and some engine management/boost increase. Its going to haul butt.

I've seen you making similar posts in several threads, but without any real depth.

It would be great if you could expand on this and clear everything up.

So we now know what the issues are. Tell us more. Hows, Whys, etc.

Why is 19 psi NOT a concern on the Evo? I still think it is. Why, specifically is CFM the real concern?

PSI is a measure of pressure differences. PSI does not have a direct relationship to power output. CFM does. CFM(cubic feet/minute) is the measure of actual air flow. You can run a tiny turbo pushing 25psi which will not have the same CFM as a much larger turbo at say 15psi.

The internals of the EVO can handle more than 19psi. The turbo that comes on the EVO is a 16g. Not exactly sure the CFM, housing size, etc on that turbo. But for a basic TDO5-16g, the flow is about 500cfm's and good for about 20psi before is starts to loose efficiency. Now, if you upgrade to a larger turbo that flows more, you can run less psi and still be making the same amount of power. I'm not saying the EVO is being maxed out, but its getting close.
