the STi8 is my first subaru so i'm not sure if what i'm going to say will apply to past models of the impreza.

today I had to clean my car especially around the hood area where a small spec of bird crap had been sitting for about two days. the bird crap came off easy enough with a wipe of the sponge but it left beind a greeny-brownish stain (the bird must have had a curry the night before). Anyway upon looking in greater detail, i noticed that the stain had gone right into the paintwork!!! what??...couldn't really believe what i was seeing?!

i've never experienced this kind of crap before so it's come as a bit of a shock. the stain i'm talking is 1/8x1/8" so it ain't big but still to get it after only two days is not on ...i honestly can't believe how cheap and how unprotective the paint used by Subaru is!

i think the corroding affect of the bird crap working in sequence with the heat of the engine really cooked it up big time. so let this be a warning to other and would be owners not to leave anything like that on your car (or at least on the alumimum hood!!!)

sigh...better get a good coat of wax on it like yesterday!!!

the same thing happend to my car about 6 times, i freaked when i couldnt just wipe it off. It would mostly come off with a lil scratching but there goes your paint anyway. So i went to the auto parts store and bought some tough stain remover from meguir's ( i forgot how to spell it) and they ALL came off great. That things is f**kin amazing. Try it.

Exactly. Experts ay Bird poop must be removed immediatly or else. I hate waxing so what I did was go to Ziebart and got their Diamond finish coating that lasts for 5 years, no waxing buffing or anything. And let me say it's the best paint protection product ever. Birt $hit and tree zap comes off faster than $hit through a goose. Invest in it and your car will always look like showroom.

It cost $300.00 Canadian (215.00 US) and it is worth every penny. You also get aquapel for your windshield that really beads the water great. The diamond gloss is good for 5 years and you NEVER have to wax or polish again. The time saving is worth the entire investment alone.

I also have rustproofing on my car from them and underbody protectant. But the diamond gloss is really where it's at.

 

Keeping a good coat or two of pure carnuba on your finish will protect you from most caustic hazards. Sounds old fashioned, but good ole wax is not just for shine. It does PROTECT!

When my partner bought his wife's Lexus, they told him that it's advertised to last five years, but really only lasts a year (at least in SoCal).

Well, whatever I have has lasted longer than 2 years so far...

 

I had pine pitch on my Lexus ES300 a couple of years ago...imagine dozens of little blotches the size of a dime all over the car. I almost cried. Then I traded it for my Subaru

If all else fails, I've used WD-40 on practically everthing. Bugs, tar, pine pitch, etc...and if you use enough it won't hurt the finish (at least, I haven't ruined MY finish yet

Well, anyone that's ever owned a pet bird or handled one knows that birds don't pee as they have no *****.
Fact is their urethra and anus are interconnected. Bird poop is literally an amalgamation of excrement and urine highly concentrated and quite acidic.

It is the enemy of all paint jobs and should be removed post haste with copious amounts of undiluted _water_ as soon as possible. Also, when removing it do not rub the poop or try to flake it off. You'll succeed in removing while at the same time rubbing the poop into your already soft and weakened paint.

As a general rule do not ever park where birds are known to roost/congregate. And for a paint job/car you care about a car cover and very good wax product are your best defense.
