Car Info: Soon to be '03 WRX
I know from my subject your all thinking that im crazy but im not. I have been following WRX for a while but have never bought one before. I currently have a '98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. When I heard the newa about the new STi I about craped myself. What I want to know is should I go ahead and get one of the new STi's or should I get an older wrx and mod it up and the get the STi later since im not use to the WRX because of never owning one. I dont have a problem with spending the money for one but I just want honest opinions on what I should do. Every little bit helps. Thanks
If you don't have a problem with the $$$s. Get it! Get it! Get it!
The STi is more than just a WRX. You're getting the 300hp +300 lbf of tourq, 6 speed with the DCCD, mechanical rear LSD, suretrack front LSD, well sorted suspension, Brembo brakes, and BBS forged wheels coated with RE070 tires. All of this stuff engineered into a nice looking package with a warrenty. If 300 is too hohum for you and you don't care about the warrenty, the ProDrive people (or others) will shortly have a upgrade package to take it up to 400 hp. If this doesn't give you big wood then forget about it.

I would say if you have to ask this question, then no. The STi is more than just another car. Your Grand Prix GTP is a very nice car. I looked at them in 2000 and almost got one. I is a big, nice riding, comfortable, quick car. The STi an the WRX are much different cars. Hard ride, small, and so on. Carefully review before you put down a deposit.
If you are serious about one, I would put a deposit on one today. Most dealers are taking refundable deposits, so you have nothing to lose. Sooner you get there the better chances you have of getting one!
