I was reading my wagon manual and i saw that the STI's need 93 octane or higher gasoline.Where I live the highest octane i've seen is 91.How do californians get 93 octane gas..

Union 76 stations are going to be your new favorite hangout. U76 is the only place i've ever seen anything higher than 91, other than local racetracks. some places will have it at the pumps, others you'll have to buy the drums of cool blue.

wow... are u guys serious.. i mean i dont mind buying 100octane at the 76 pumps but its expensive!! i thought it would be fine just to buy the 91 most of the time and occasionally buy 100, or 114 of the 5 gallon drums. so..is using 91 not good for the STi engine or something?

Subaru says for STI max performance you need 94 octane... which you cant get nearly anywhere. If you follow what Subaru is calling for.. in STI you will spend thousands on the STI in gas oil and tires in the first 12,000 miles and thats with no mods.

you'll have a hard time finding 94 octane gas here in CA with any consistancy. mixing 100+ octane gas with 91 is probably okay most of the time (as long as the ratio is right) but it's a pain in the rear. to run on 94 octane all the time, you'll have to mix the hi-test stuff in with every tank.
catdogr is right, the purchase price of the car is kinda decieving, you'll spend bucketloads on the STi between gas, tires, brake pads and insurance.

they dont have 93 or 94 in cali but thats just fine because cali does have 91 and 100 octane at the pumps, and just buy 91 its fine, and when u are ready for some action then get 100, and if u are going to a racewar then buy 114 in 5 gal. drums, no big deal, the STi still saves a lot more gas then those SUV's and some domestics. its still a 4cylinder which conserves fuel better than those V8's

Seriously, I feel for the Cali guys and the 91 octane.
I'll pretty much guarantee that your STi will be retarding timing at WOT when running 91 (which means less peak HP and TQ). Grrr, that just frustrates me thinking about it. Waiting this long for the STi, trying to find a good dealer at/under MSRP, paying $31,500, and then not being able to drive at rated HP/TQ capability unless I spring $4.00/gal or more for race fuel to mix with my 91? Sunuva...
