no radio!
Why does the 2004 STi come without a radio? I mean, c'mon... how much can the radio weigh? It's not like most people are actually going to be participating in rallies, and if they were they could take their radios out. I would have made more sense, in my opinion to have a radio delete option, rather than for the thing to come without a radio. I guess maybe all the stereos will be a dealer installed option? Ahhh, now it makes sense - it's about money. The thing they really should have offered as a factory delete option is that ridiculous wing. For me personally, that thing is hard to swallow.
I hate to say this, but I actually liked the way my 2002 WRX front looks over the new 2004. I think they took away the unique character of the car. That having been said, the STi is obviously a better car in almost every other way imaginable.

old info
That's funny. I could have sworn I got the info off of a site that was talking about the NY auto show. Maybe I got confused. It's also strange that you say 6 months ago, because back then nobody even realized it was going to have a 2.5L engine.
Anyway, since you weren't very informative in your reply, what is the current deal with it?

You can have an option to add a radio at the dealer. They did opposite as you wanted them to do, which is people that want to rally it don't have to pay extra to get a radio, and people who want it can add it.
Also, with no radio, you can get an aftermarket sound system/radio instead of having a stock one coming with the car and replacing it after

The radio usually suck anyways. You're much better off w/ an aftermarket system. I'd rather have a lower priced car and put in a stereo that I want, rather than overpaying for the factory installed one.

You can select from your local parts & accessories dept. any radio, Subaru or otherwise, that you wish.
The STi comes pre-wired for the radio and speakers.
It's plug and play...

god damm chill dude it does come with a friggn dealer radio if u want jessh
its for people who dont want the factory radio and they go get their own installed so they dont have to get stuck with the dealer radio its not like they dont have an option where u cant have a radio
to make urself happier just call up ur dealer and tell them to install the radio before u get there and add it to the price tag so u wont start spazzing out when u arrive there without a radio in ur STi....its more about performance that matters over a radio

Uhhhh.... yeah. I think it's actually about the dealer getting the bucks for radio installation. Who in the world is ever going to lose a race because of their radio? 99.9999 percent of all people who own these cars will never ever notice the difference.
Actually, I'm not as worked up as you seem to think I am. Are you as young as your post seems to indicate you are?

Save yourself some money and get an aftermarket radio. I think thats the point of the whole issue, that too many people just get rid of the stock stereo's anyway so they decided to just negate it.
Or maybe Subaru just thinks too many people will try to fiddle with the radio and shift and the same time
