New Owner
Hi everyone, I am new here. I got a wild hair today, and finally bought a new STI. I have a few questions that have probably been covered, but here goes. What is the best performance uspgrades at reasonable prices? Also, where can i ger a kit to install an aftermarket stereo in the dash? How about speakers........ Thanks a million, hope to post often. This car is AWESOME!

If you do a search, you will find a ton of information to answer all your questions. The best performance mods are a catless downpipe, exhaust and intake. After that, we will need ECU upgrades to go further. Figure about $1000+ for everything. No need for a dash kit to install a stereo. A standard DIN headunit just bolts to the factory ISO brackets. Speakers, you can go with 5.25" or 6.5" w/ appropriate adaptor/spacer for the front. For the rear, you can go with 4" or 5.25"(may need to enlarge opening). Depth isn't much of a problem for the rear.

While I'm not sure of the best answer to the first question, the second is easier.
All the wiring is in place so all you have to do is decide on the head unit, amplifier, an speakers. Any car stereo shop should be able to handle it easily.
If you plan on doing it yourself then you need to look behind the door trim, etc. and measure speaker sizes.
I know there have been posts on this but since I opted for the Subura upgraded system, I didn't pay a lot of attention.

Dealerships are required to warranty smog work for 10years on all new cars, so I imagine you'll lose that if you remove the cat...if you care.
I'm more worried about a void on the drivetrain warranty due to "excessive power added to the transmission".
Then again if you are like me - I'd put the stock exhaust back on b4 taking it in for anything major. Bolt on exhaust is easy to put back.
From what I've read, the intake upgrades don't help much unless you upgrade the turbo or increase the boost.
Exhaust seems to be where the cheap power is. (~30-40hp on otherwise stock setup)
