I found this on the Evolutionm.net forum. The Sti kicked ***!!!
"I quickly scanned it at the store. Evo 13.4 ¼ and STI 13.1 (that is moving for switching gears 4 times). The laps times though were within about .6 (i think). the STI had the faster lap time.
Also, 30-50 and 50-70 #'s the STI kicks the Evo's ***... by about .4 of a second combined.
Anyway....... they also had a dyno graph of each car... the Evo was the production model and the STI was "preproduction".
I forget the hp #'s, but it sounds like everyone comes up with the same conclusions..... STI kicks *** in a straight line and Evo kicks *** in handling. "

Actually, I haven't read the report yet. I don't really care which car is better than the other, they're BOTH good.
EVO is and always will be better in the corners and STi in the straights, stock vs stock.
I'll be happy with either car even though EVO is cheaper. I've seen the EVO and the regular WRX, sat in both. The WRX is better in quality in my view.

With the HP and Torque advantage of the STi, the Subaru driver should never lose in a contest of straight away speed. Especially with the 6 speed tranny.

Your right. In a straight line race the STi should win hands down. Even the EVO guys agree. In every true comparison, where the STi and the EVO were compared at the same time, on the same track, by the same driver, the STi was faster in a straight line. Substantially faster at higher speeds.
The only comparison I saw where the EVO came out a head of the STi in straight line speed was done by MT. That comparison wasn't even a real comparison. The EVO and the STi were tested on different days at different tracks.
MT even agrees that it wasn't a true comparison. They are suppose to do a true heads up comparison in a future issue. That will be interesting to see.

Why did they do a test with a preproduction model? Wouldn't it have been more realistic to of used production vehicles to prevent the antics that the muscle car makers were doing in their day with cars that were anything but final production in performance? I've had my run in with SOA and warranty work not to mention crap build quality from them. I'll take which ever one comes out to being the best value for its price. By the way a Wisconsin dealer is selling 2 Evos right now for $1000 below MSRP. Maybe by the end of the year the pricing on both cars will get very negotiable and if it doesn't then its still no loss.
