cvt is 400 hp and is caddy's verison of M/STI/AMG
and suspension is supposedly sport tuned, article states car shifts gears close to redline and they been testing it on nurenburg..
Its all hype but for 31k is a great car, even though I hate american cars..

I think Caddy engineer's idea of a sport tuned suspension is still softer then a base model Honda Accord's suspension
I don't care if the Caddy have a MSRP of $3K, I don't want to drive one.
Hyundai make pretty decent car now a days for a little over $10K, do you want to drive one? I rather drive my 16 year old Toyota

I bought a new CTS when they first came out last year. It was in the shop 7 times in the first 6 months. Three times for a coolant leak that they finaly diagnosed as a cracked head. Twice for a broken antenna grid in the rear windshield, and once because the front left fender was misaligned from the factory and caused a lot of wind noise.
Cadillac tries to tell you in their advertising that the CTS is a different car from the Catera, however when my head cracked they had to send to Germany for a new one. Just like the Opel based Catera.
In its defense when it was actualy on the road, the 5-speed manual gearbox was the sweetest one I have ever shifted. Short throws, very firm with never a missed shift.
Also Cadilac uses a 3.2 V-6 in its first year CTS, an engine that they don't ever plan on using again after this year, try to find performance parts for that!!!

It always scare me to have to rent a car from Avis, since all they have are GM vehicle. Even though they are brand new, I always have a feeling that they would break down in the middle of the road

I rented a Cadilac when I was out in MN once. It made the 4 hour drive from Minneapolis to Fargo a breeze! Only real complaint I had about the car was that it was too smart. One of the tires was a pound too high for the computer so it kept complaining at me. Eventually I stopped and leaked a pound or two out. I'm not a fan of american cars, but if I was given one I woudln't complain.

The 5 speed was a gertag (sorry about the spelling) and it was a grman made precison piece of equipment. I think they use them in the M5 BMW also. It was incredible.
Another nice feature of the Cadillac was the on-star system. We took a guys weekend and went to Manhattan, to try and make a long story short if you have ever tried to find Scores (Howard Stern fans know what I'm talking about) it is a tuff place to find. But the on-star lead us right to the place.

Janq here...
No AMD, you'll get any hateration from me on the CTS.
Its frankly not my cup of tea for a number of reasons although I give kudos to GM, I mean Caddillac, for green lighting such an avant-garde design. Its a better looking car than the Evoq and less slab sided than the Escalade/EXT SUV & Pickup variants.
I've heard about the new big V8 they ar going to drop in that thing and it'll probably make big power but I doubt it'll move too quickly as Caddy buyers tend not to be interested in go as much as show.
Also, AMDMAX you are a young guy...trust me there will be _plenty_ of time for 'old man sedans'. Have you seen the pre-liminary specs & designs for the '04 Supra?!?
No that is something to get excited about.
In a battle of STi vs. Caddy, I'd go STi and pimp out the interior in custom leather or better 'ballistic nylon' material (like from a 'Joe Rocket' riding coat), plug in some comy Recaro's top it off with ICE (low key but thumpin') and wrap it all up in 18's for show.
You could do all that and still have change left over in comparison to a stock CTS V8 and beat it to 60 while having a street machine with deep authority.
Keep me looped and let me know what you decide...
If you go CTS thats cool, keep playin' player!
