I recall that thread/statement and believe me you are not the only one to say so. But don't sweat it old chap, its a public forum and by posting I set myself out there to get chomped on.
I don't take anything here personally though as I'm only here to have fun and learn/share info with folks.
No apology necessary as you're cool in my book.
Anyway, my third & final post comparing the STi & G35 C will include some insight as to my feelings/observations on 'image' for both vehicles. I'm sure some folks may disagree and thats cool as the discussion keeps the board interesting and buzzing.

Thanks. I think you are a pretty cool guy too
I finally get to check out a USDM WRX STi in detail yesterday at a local dealer. Oh boy
I don't have to tell you guys my impression of it since everyone knows everything about it already. All I know is it gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling, telling me this is my next car. I don't even have to test drive it
The really only thing I wish the car have is a little bigger back seat and a wagon version is available. But if Subaru do offer a STi wagon, it won't have those wide fender, basically I am never truely satisfy. But this thing is as close as it get to my dream daily driver
Don't get me wrong, I was thinking about having some cool image too for my next car just like most car buyer out there. I was considering the G35 sedan/coupe, Lexus GS300, to as far as a E55 (yes I know it is well over $90K out the door). I test drove all of them (actually my dad just bought a new GS300 sport design a few weeks ago, I was driving it all over the place). All though they are all VERY nice car, all of them are extremely comfortable and handle/drive pretty good for what they are, and the E55 is just a rocket. But honestly none of them gave me that warm fuzzy feeling like the STi does. Mostly because of all their rich fancy leather interior (Yes I am weird, I actually prefer cheap plastic and cloth interior, I feel more at home, I guess is because all the cars I previously own are that way
). And all though both the GS300 and the E55's auto tranny are probably the best auto tranny out in the market, but it is still not a good old raw manual tranny. I do admit automatic are a lot more comfortable to drive, I was considering switching because I am getting more lazy now a days, but after doing some thinking, it is really not me. As far as I am concern, image means nothing to me. As long as the car I am driving makes me happy, I have no concern of what people think of me. The only luxury items I absolutely needs are AC, great driving position and seats, and remote entry (I hate using the key to open the door). Everything else is just useless weight
One thing I love about the Dodge SRT-4 is that thing got manual window in the 2 back doors, that is perfect since I never open those windows anyway, this way some useless weight is saved!!!
