EU gets 2 different STI's
I just got a Greek auto magazine (4 Wheels) and it shows the 2 new STI models for Europe. There's the STI330 which puts out 330hp and the STI265 which makes 265. BOTH ARE 2 LITRES!!! Then there's the other models like the WRX 2000cc which they advertize as making 225hp, the S-turbo 180(1600cc turbo making 180hp and sans hoodscoop like our RS) and 150(you guessed it) and the TS1600 which makes 95hp.The STI330 makes its peak power at 6300 while the 265 makes it at 6000. The 330 hits 100kmh in 5.2 sec while the 265 hits it in 5.4. It doesnt surprise me that EU still gets the EJ20 since regular unleaded over there is 93 octane (I run BP superplus 98 in my Nissan Primera GT when i'm over there) and th taxes on any car over 2 litres is ridiculous. After reading the article I began to deduce that the US STI is kinda faking the funk in that it needs the EJ25 to make the kind of power it has and still meet EPA standards. Then again there's no replacement for displacement!
0-100 km/h vs 0-60 mph typically has a 0.5 second difference because of the 2.5 mph difference. so a 5.2 0-100 would be around 4.7 0-60. This is not always the case but a 'rule of thumb'.

Im not fluent enough in Greek to know how they got the numbers. I do know that they did their comparative testing with a Cosworth Ford Escort WRC. The Escort spanked them in lateral skid by .06g of course, but its nice to see just how the margin between road car and rally car handling is slowly disappearing.

I got the following informatin from a Greek member of Scoobynet Forum:
"Guys, this is b!@#$%^ Greek model produced by "Subaru Motor Hellas" only for the Greek market and is so fragile that you can see more than 50% models blew up until now.
It comes with VF22, 1,3/1,4 bar boost increased by cutting the wastegate and welding it again as the factory one isn't adjustable!!! Doesn't include exhaust, new restrictor or fuel pump and gave dynoed from magazines less than 310ps.
Yes, this is the best way to rip off innocent customers (it costs ONLY 5000GBP more than normal STI)!
Don't bother, you lose your time.
JIM"
Moreover, I called Subaru Germany. They are not aware of such 330hp version. However, they said that we will get DCCD in Germany, too. That is truly great. I am not concerned about the European 2l engine with 265hp because you can easily increase power and torque to 300hp, 400nm with the help of "invisible" EcuTek Tuning.
Cheers,
Devlin

Man, I haven't heard any one say "faking the funk" since Spike Lee was making hit movies!
\But anyway, keep in mind in the US we have emission rules then we have this add on country they call 'California'.
In California the smog is so bad at times that it can cause indoor fire detectors to seemingly go off at random.
You think Michael Jackson walks around wearing a painters mask for fun and giggles. The man's face started melting off from the stuff. It's bad out there, and their state leaders have decided to 'fix' things by instituting Draconian environmental regs, rules a lwas that make anything less than a green 10 speed Schwinn tough to pass their emission rules.
Back in the day manufacturers used to sell what were called '49 state' cars meaning regular smoke breathing dragions and then they had 'California' cars with all manner of air-pump, EGR valves, restirctor plates and much-o garbage to reduce emissions (as well as power & torque & the fun to drive factor).
Now days most manufacturers find it easier/cheaper to sell one car for all 50 states (plus Puerto Rico) as all the states are now running their own individual versions of California based emissions standards.
Thus Subaru is smart to bump up up the cubes by a half inch to better meet emission standards.
Not to mention a 'side effect' that more cubes and a bigger crank equals more low end torque. And everyone knows we Yanks love the low end. Why else would we adore J-Lo?
But seriously good low end torque begets better N/A pre-boost accelerative numbers which begets more time for the turbo to spool and compress more air which begets hot catalysts which begets meeting California emission rules which begets happy Fedarale's and even happier US Subie buyers.
